Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.

 

Role Purpose:

The person in this position will join a global team of highly technical and skilled scientists and engineers for new product/process development and have hands on experience on fiber optics & passive optical components, meanwhile applying state-of-the art experimental/ theoretical and skills to technical problems.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Solve problems based on fundamental understanding
  • Apply statistical tools and data analysis skills to provide feedback on product/process improvement
  • Document work in reports and presentations
  • Support the team on project deliverables

 

Education & Experience:

  • Required BSc. in progress, preferred MSc. or Ph.D. in progress
  • Major on Electrical Engineering, Optics or Physics
  • GPA of 3.4 or above Preferred
  • The candidate must have completed a minimum of two courses in Optics or Fiber Optics
  • Product development experience or industrial experience is a plus

 

Required Skills/Knowledge:

  • Experienced with device and equipment for optics, such as optical spectrum analyzer, laser sources, power detector, etc.
  • Ability to clearly present the work has been done
  • Proficient in the use of MS Office (Excel, Word, Project, PowerPoint, etc.)
  • Written/verbal communication skills - intermediate and preferably advanced level of English language
  • Experienced with data analysis using software like Excel, Matlab or Origin
  • Problem-solving skills

 

Desired Skills/Knowledge:

  • Knowledge about optical fiber and passive optical components
  • Experienced with precision alignment /vision system / automation is a big plus
  • Experienced with industrial environment
  • Experienced with new device/component innovation and validation
  • Experienced with equation solver-based simulation software like FDTD, COMSOL

 

Hours of work / work schedule:

  • Basic work hours are 40hrs/week; 8am-5pm

​The range for this position is $1,519.00 - $3,074.00 biweekly.  Starting pay for the successful applicant is prescribed based on geographic location, nature of position, and year in school.
