Scope of Position:
The intern will develop methodologies for design and characterization of fiber optics components and apply state-of-the art experimental/ theoretical and skills to technical problems.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Design, build and automate optical systems
  • Develop and implement Labview software for measurement systems 
  • Develop tools for data analysis
  • Document test methodologies and test results
  • Develop and implement methodologies to optimize measurement performance

 

Work Hours: Basic work hours are 40hrs/week; 8am-5pm

 

Education and Experience: 

  • Completion of junior year in Electrical Engineering, Optics or Physics.
  • Graduate students in the same disciplines will be preferable.
  • The candidate must have completed a minimum of two courses in Optics or Fiber Optics.
  • Relevant experience a plus

 

Required Skills: 

  • Background in optics or optical engineering
  • Programming skills
  • Computer literate in MS Office programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Problem-solving skills
  • Organizational skills
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks
  • Ability to build relationships and interact with all levels of the organization
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to effectively present information
  • Results-oriented
  • Flexibility - Able to change and adjust smoothly as the situation demands

 

Desired Skills 

  • Optical metrology, preferably in fiber optics
  • Experience in Labview programming
  • Knowledge of statistical analysis
