Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.

Key Responsibilities

  • Developing tools for managing product data integrity for new product introduction to our external manufacturers
  • Analyzing product designs for product data completeness and qualification streamlining
  • Team based environment with internship work focused on a work-stream of an ongoing project.
  • Collaboration with internal and external subject matter experts.
  • Application of statistical tools.
  • Provide project support to evaluate product quality through execution of tests with lab based systems.
  • Review and interpret data to make recommendations on immediate actions, long term corrective actions, follow-up experiments, etc.
  • Define and carry out experimental plans by setting up equipment (such as various types of measurement systems and mechanical apparatus), performing experimentation, data collection & analysis, and providing test reports.
  • Maintain and improve a safe work environment.

Requirements

  • Pursing BS in an Engineering field. Preferably in Mechanical, Electrical, or Optical Science.   
  • Must be available for 10 weeks during Summer 2027 (May 26 - July 30, 2027) with a graduation date of December 2027 or later
  • Be interested in working for Corning, Inc after graduation, if presented with a full-time job opportunity.
  • Be willing to work at the posted job location
  • Demonstrated problem solving techniques
  • Demonstrated, applied mechanical aptitude.
  • Ability to clearly express technical ideas.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Ability to communicate effectively and work in teams.
  • Proficient in the use of MS Office (Excel, Word, Project, PowerPoint)

Desired Skills

  • SW Development experience in Python
  • Ability to interpret drawings and schematics.
  • Capable of performing complex data analysis using MS excel (SPC), or statistical software such as JMP or Minitab.
  • Familiar with fiber optic theory.

​The range for this position is $1,635.00 - $3,185.00 biweekly.  Starting pay for the successful applicant is prescribed based on geographic location, nature of position, and year in school.
