Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.

Role Purpose

 

Works with other team members to solve difficult technical, engineering related problems. Supports or leads continuous improvement activities, new process introductions, improving overall system reliability, and cost reduction projects. Serve as a resource for technical information regarding expansions, retrofits and new installations.

Key Responsibilities

 

  • Provide process understanding and technical support for pollution abatement systems supporting optical fiber manufacturing.
  • Solve process issues through data analysis, experimentation, and collaboration with subject matter experts.
  • Provide engineering expertise for fundamental understanding of manufacturing issues. 
  • Provide trend analysis of key metrics and implement response plans. 
  • Lead and/or provide support for projects involving cost reduction, process optimization, and new processes. 
  • Actively engage in plant safety initiatives and projects. 
  • Recommend/implement improvements to processes and equipment. 
  • Identify chronic issues and recommend corrective actions. 
  • Provide leadership or support for startup of new equipment lines. 
  • Develop and update engineering and operations documentation. 
  • Provide training for operations workforce regarding equipment or operations changes. 

Experiences/Education - Required

 

  • BS or MS in Chemical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering preferred. Will consider Electrical or Materials Engineer as well
  • 3+ years of engineering work experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Strong data analysis and statistical skills. Must be proficient with Microsoft Excel and Access (queries, databases) 
  • Experience with experimental design 
  • Strong communication and presentation skills 
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize work on an independent basis in a fast-paced manufacturing environment

Experiences/Education - Desired

 

  • Six Sigma Greenbelt certification
  • Knowledge of manufacturing cost accounting
  • Project management experience
  • Experience with statistical packages

The range for this position is $85,304.00 - $117,293.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education.
