Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.

Overview

The Process Development Technician works closely with engineering teams to execute testing, validate processes, verify equipment performance, and analyze data in support of new product and process introduction. This is a hands-on, lab-based role focused on disciplined test execution, data interpretation, and clear documentation — with direct impact on how validated processes are transferred into manufacturing.

Key Responsibilities

• Plan, set up, and execute experiments and validation testing for new products, materials, equipment, and processes in collaboration with engineering teams
• Perform hands-on testing using measurement systems, lab equipment, and mechanical apparatus; ensure test methods are followed accurately and consistently
• Collect, organize, and interpret experimental and process data; identify trends, inconsistencies, and key findings to support engineering decisions
• Prepare test records, summaries, and technical reports; assist in developing test methods, validation protocols, and standard work documentation
• Support root cause investigations, feasibility studies, and structured problem-solving related to process performance, test failures, and manufacturing issues

Required Qualifications

• Associate degree in a technical discipline or military equivalent, OR 2+ years of experience in an experimental laboratory, testing, validation, process development, or manufacturing environment
• Hands-on experience with experimental testing, equipment setup, and data collection in a technical laboratory or manufacturing environment
• Ability to review data critically, interpret results, and make evidence-based recommendations
• Familiarity with measurement systems and common hand, electrical, and mechanical tools
• Understanding of process validation, test execution, and equipment verification principles; experience following detailed test procedures and documenting results accurately
• Experience supporting development or improvement of technical processes, equipment, or lab methods
• General computer proficiency, including MS Office applications
• Ability to travel approximately 25% of the time, including potential international travel

Desired Qualifications

• Experience performing data analysis using Excel, Statistical Process Control (SPC) tools, JMP, Minitab, or similar statistical software
• Experience in process development, validation testing, or equipment verification in a manufacturing or engineering environment
• Familiarity with prototype or lab-scale equipment evaluation and process troubleshooting
• Ability to identify trends, variation, and opportunities for process improvement from test and production data
• Experience with manufacturing documentation such as work instructions, validation protocols, or test procedures
• Computer-Aided Design (CAD) experience for tooling, fixture, or component support work (Creo and SolidWorks preferred)
• Familiarity with machined component design and tolerancing

The range for this position is $72,744.00 - $100,023.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education.
