Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.

Purpose of Position:

 

Apply engineering skills and knowledge to serve as the product and design owner responsible for product integrity, reliability, and change control of released Micro optics products.

 

Major Roles and Responsibilities:

 

Clarify, understand, and document customer requirements, product specifications and product applications

Ensure Fit, Form, Function through appropriate qualification test plans, design control and change approval while balancing speed to market and profitability

Drive rigorous root cause analysis for product integrity issues

Quickly and effectively respond to customer and commercial requests for rapid product changes

Identify and execute qualification of product cost reduction opportunities throughout the lifecycle

Evolve product performance to meet competitive pressure and industry trends

Standardize product specifications, materials, and components

List the 2 most complex decisions indicative of this function and its impact to the function, department and/or corporation.

Responsible to support product teams initiatives and customer related issues; propose product enhancements, opportunities for standardizations, and cost reductions.

Support project execution between development and plant manufacturing as an impartial 3rd party with the expertise to balance risks between business demands and product assurance.

 

Knowledge and Skill Requirements 

 

Mechanical or Electronics Engineering Degree 

Project management skills desirable 

Problem solving and analytical capabilities 

Excellent communications, interpersonal and influencing skills. 

High initiative, able to work with a minimum of direction, and able to work in team environment Required Work Experience: 

Minimum of 3 years' experience in development, product, or process engineering 

Minimum 2 years in similar role (engineer)
