Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.

Scope of Position:

Apply knowledge of engineering principles and practices to effectively accomplish technical assignments and projects. Make decisions independently based upon sound engineering and scientific methods. Strengthen the Product Quality Architecture within the plant by driving fundamental understanding and continual improvements that positively influence the Quality Management System.

Day to Day Responsibilities:

• Designs new and improves existing quality architecture systems.  
• Facilitates efforts in understanding processes capability and product quality architecture.
• Performs experimental designs and data analysis.
• Facilitates root cause analysis on products and processes not meeting specified standards and requirements. 
• Works with manufacturing and engineering on proactive sustainable solutions.
• Facilitates the corrective and preventive action process. 
• Drives early identification of vulnerabilities or quality issues, assigns ownership, and ensures that corrective measures meet acceptable reliability standards and that documentation is compliant with requirements.
• Drives closure of failure investigation reports by engaging engineering/manufacturing as needed, by assigning ownership and escalating concerns quickly, driving decisions and tracking actions to closure.
• Support quality assurance in the resolution of product and/or customer issues.
• Facilitates the Change Control Process. Evaluate the impact of product, process and equipment changes on product attributes and quality architectures.  
• Collaborates with development, engineering and manufacturing functions to ensure quality standards are in place.
• Process Owner/Approver for all database changes. Responsible for including key personnel in database decisions and ensure other stakeholders are notified and informed of changes.
• Provides quality leadership of overall database management.
• Works with quality assurance and manufacturing to ensure data integrity (loaded system data matches actual results) and label printing accuracy.
• Audits quality systems for deficiency identification and correction.
• Leads updates and training with EtQ electronic management system supporting the division.
• Active Team member on Supplier Quality Team and facilitates quality reviews related to IQA. 
• Designs and analyzes inspection and testing processes; conducts quality assurance tests.
• Assists with the development of Product Master Records.
• Effectively uses different improvement methodologies (DMAIC, Lean, DESGN, etc.) toward the achievement of division or plant strategic goals.
• May be certified in lean and six-sigma quality engineering methodologies.
• Exercises judgement within defined procedures and practices to determine appropriate action.
• Ability to work across various functional groups daily to accomplish goals.

Travel Requirements:

• <10%

Hours of work/work schedule/flex-time:

• 40 Hrs. additional hours/weekends when needed to support project work/ quality issue resolution.

Required Education:

• BS in Engineering.

Required Years and Area of Experience:

• 2+ years’ experience in process or quality engineering.

Required Skills:

• Ability to handle multiple tasks and issues effectively.
• Ability to work on technical projects teams in leadership and/or subordinate roles.
• Understands the value and operation of Quality Systems.
• Participate in or lead internal quality audits.
• Familiar with ISO Certifications or other types of Quality certifications. 
• Experience in a manufacturing plant, preferably with a Quality certification.
• Good data collection and analysis skills; good understanding of statistics and control charts.
• Sound decision making skills.
• Effective in Project Management:
•  Ability to drive projects to closure.
• Strong Facilitator.   
• Structured problem-solving skills which drive to root cause. (e.g., KT)
• Experience with corrective action process steps.
• Good written and verbal communications skills.
• Proficient in MS-Office Suite.

Desired Skills:

• Proven self-starter – able to effectively manage high levels of uncertainty and change.
• Six Sigma Black or Green Belt or DMAIC project experience.
• Experience with electronic quality management systems. (e.g. EtQ, Windchill, etc.)
• Experience with various statistical packages like SAS and Minitab.

The range for this position is $80,011.00 - $110,016.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education.
