Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.
Scope of Position:
Development and implementation of technologies for telecommunication applications, focused on optical and optoelectronic systems, components, subassemblies, and connectivity solutions.
Day to Day Responsibilities:
- Design, build, optimize and test micro-optical prototypes and sub-assemblies.
- Serve as technical leads in projects with worldwide impact on optical interconnects and fiber optics hardware.
- Product, process development and introduce to manufacturing.
- Provide information and technical assistance to manufacturing, division engineering, and production personnel as required.
- Lead feasibility studies, design experiments (DOE’s), capability evaluation to identify key parameter for new assemblies and process technologies.
- Improve product assembly processes using state of art technology (including automation).
- Write technical documents, product specifications and presentations.
- Collaborate with colleagues worldwide.
- Coach others and provide technical trainings.
- Participate in engineering design reviews.
Required Education:
- Master’s degree or above, in Engineering, Physics or optics/optoelectronics /opto-mechanics related discipline.
Required Skills:
- >3 years of industrial experience with passive optical component and devices.
- Background in assembly, testing and evaluation of optical components and devices.
- Fundamental knowledge in the field of:
- Optical fibers and connectors.
- Passive optical components (WDM, splitters, etc.).
- Optical measurement equipment.
- Photonic Integrated Circuits (e.g., SiP, InP, etc.).
- Experience in optomechanical design and optical precision alignment.
- Experience in software programming (Python, Matlab or similar).
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks.
- Ability to clearly express technical ideas.
- Exceptional analytical skills.
Desired Requirements:
- PhD in optics related discipline.
- Prior experience in optical communication industry.
- Experience in CAD design (SolidWorks or similar).
- Experience in quality management of processes (Six sigma).
Soft Skills:
- Ability to work unsupervised and schedule time effectively.
- Fluent English (spoken and written).
- Able to work across regional boundaries and cultures.
- Drive and commitment to implement new processes and products.
Travel:
- ~5%
This position supports immigration sponsorship.
The range for this position is $108,674.00 - $149,427.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education. The benefits available for this position are dependent on hours worked and may include medical, dental, vision, 401(k) plan, pension plan, life insurance coverage, disability benefits, and PTO.
