Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.
Purpose of this position:
- Supervise, coordinate, and coach employees engaged in production of WIP components or finished good product for the Life Sciences businesses at the Kennebunk Plant.
Responsibilities include:
- Shift performance towards production objectives and personnel adherence to plant procedures, policies, and documentation.
- Directly supervise all shift personnel responsible for the manufacturing of products related to the Life Sciences businesses to ensure that daily production quantity and quality standards are met.
- On a daily basis ensure that employees provide a concise and accurate documentation and communication of variances in process, procedures or production priority, along with corrective action taken.
- Establish or adjust work procedures to meet production schedules and quality requirements.
- Counsel direct reports by providing formal and informal performance feedback.
- Maintain and enforce all safety regulations and housekeeping standards on a consistent basis.
- Recommend improvements to process and/or equipment that enhance the manufacturing performance of the department. Initiate and/or suggest opportunities to enhance the Plant’s compliance to the principles of a High Performance System.
- Initiate and/or suggest opportunities to develop employees team skills.
- Interpret and enforce Plant and company policies and procedures on a consistent basis.
- Maintain the systems and actions necessary to ensure compliance with the Kennebunk ISO 9001 Quality System and ISO 14001 Environmental Management System .
- Report machine and equipment malfunctions to maintenance personnel.
- Maintain payroll and production records.
- Resolve work related or personal issues expediently as possible.
- Ensure cooperation with Engineering in the implementation and evaluation of development experiments.
- Provide work center start up and shutdown coordination.
- As shift personnel develop, transfer responsibility, authority, and accountability as appropriate.
- Support new product implementations as required.
- Manage special projects as assigned by the department manager.
- Implement corrective action related to process variations, equipment malfunctions, or operations endangering the safety of personnel or facility.
- Evaluate and take corrective action with regard to employee skill levels.
- Assist employees in setting daily production priorities.
- Provide solutions to meet the daily personal and work related disciplinary problems of directly supervised employees.
- Evaluate shift team and individual performance and delegate responsibility, authority, and accountability accordingly.

The range for this position is $27.00 hourly rate - $30.75 hourly rate. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education.
