Role Purpose

The Controls Engineer intern will support the Corning Life Sciences Division Engineering Automation, Controls, Equipment and Measurements Team with project activities including new and existing product capacity expansions, technology development, process system upgrades, yield and throughput improvement and feasibility studies. This position will include but is not limited to process automation and equipment specifications, design, controls and programming, and measurements support for capacity expansion projects, improving current processes or developing new technology.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in defining equipment specifications, related project plans and design reviews.
  • Assist in problem-solving or trouble shooting to ensure timely resolution of equipment, cont issues.
  • Provides cost and schedule updates on assigned projects.
  • Support equipment acceptance testing, installation, debug and validations.
  • Provide general engineering and manufacturing skills and knowledge (understands theories and fundamentals) and support efforts for root cause understanding of issues and put permanent solutions in place.
  • Recommend and implement permanent solutions to long term performance issues and improve existing and new technologies.
  • Meet all Environmental, Safety and Health requirements. 

Requirements

  • Must be available for 10 weeks during Summer 2026 (May-August 2026) with a graduation date of December 2026 or later
  • Be interested in working for Corning, Inc after graduation, if presented with a full-time job opportunity
  • Be willing to work at the posted job location

Required Education/Skills

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelors or Masters of Engineering in the fields of Automation, Controls, Electrical, Mechanical or Physics 
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills 
  • Strong organizational skills, detail-oriented
  • High skill level with Microsoft Office Suite (PowerPoint, Word, Excel)
  • Ability to work well under pressure and adapt to changing project requirements and deadlines
  • Self-motivated; takes initiative Ability to work in a team environment

Desired Skills

  • Creative and innovative; ability to work with MS Project, CAD (AutoCAD, SolidWorks), MathCad, Matlab and LabView
  • Willingness to learn and acquire new skills
  • Experience on PLC programming, experience with electrical systems and experience with software development environments

The range for this position is $1,635.00 - $3,185.00 biweekly.  Starting pay for the successful applicant is prescribed based on geographic location, nature of position, and year in school.
