Purpose To assist the engineering supervisor and provide indirect supervision to the technicians assigned to the department. To train junior technicians to develop them for future roles. To provide technical support for equipment assigned to the department including extruders, draw machines, assembly machines, printing equipment, plugging equipment, packaging equipment, and all other ancillary equipment associated with them.

 

Day to Day Responsibilities:

  • Act as indirect supervisor for technicians, reporting problems to, and directing the work of technicians to support, the engineering supervisor.
  • Troubleshoot, debug, repair, maintain, start, stop, set up, and make improvements to equipment to support production, and act as a resource for junior level technicians.
  • Escalated machine issues that cannot be resolved to engineering.
  • Train and mentor maintenance technicians.
  • Assist in existing equipment improvement projects and recommend new ones.
  • Assist in documenting, or updating existing documents, procedure necessary for the efficient operations of equipment.
  • Understand and enforce workplace safety requirements.
  • Oversee and review PM schedules and recommend changes, as necessary.
  • Coordinate with external contractors and vendors to support maintenance, upgrade, and installation of equipment.
  • Act as coordinator for calibrations of measurement tools and new equipment that needs to be added.

  • May participate in:
    • Concept generation
    • Concept reviews
    • Design reviews
    • Vendor selection o FAT / SAT testing
  • Assist with the installation and operator/technician training for new/modified equipment.

Travel Requirements:

  • Travel is expected to be less than 10% for this role.

Work Hours:

  • Normal working hours are M-F, 8 hours, shift dependent.
  • Overtime may be required to support the 24/7 production environment.

Education / Experience:

  • High school diploma.
  • 10+ years of experience in a technical role within a manufacturing environment.

Skills Required:

  • Exceptional electrical/mechanical troubleshooting skills
  • Able to read, understand, and use schematics, mechanical drawings, and specifications for troubleshooting and upgrading equipment.
  • Working knowledge of standard automation components and sensors.
  • Computer literate
  • Result oriented, self-starter who can also work effectively as a member of a high performing team.
  • Proficient with use of basic hand tools and measuring equipment.
  • Good written and verbal communications skills
  • Detail oriented with a high degree of accuracy and quality.
  • Ability to supervise personnel.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Organized and capable of juggling competing priorities.

Desired Skills:

  • MS Office (Word and Excel)
  • Knowledge of plastic extrusion, molding, ultrasonic welding, UV curing, and thermal forming.
