Scope of Position:

 In this role, you will lead a 3-shift production operation to achieve department goals of Safety, Quality, Cost, Delivery, Morale and Innovation in the manufacture of products for the Life Sciences Kennebunk plant. You will be responsible to manager the activities of Production Teams to support the objectives of the business. We look for you to develop and implement plans to maximize the efficiency and output of operations optimizing product availability for customer service. The role handles various resources such as people, equipment, materials, information and time.


Day to Day Responsibilities:

  • Leads 3 shift production operations.
  • Meets or exceeds forecasted production levels, budget and spending objectives for the product lines under their responsibility.
  • Aligns hourly workforce to reflect business levels.
  • Develops department budgets for their operations, monitors spending throughout the year and handles expenses.
  • Develops positive working relationships using effective social skills and networking within the Plant across departments.
  • Ensures compliance to Plant and Corporate rules and expectations including Plant Policies, Procedures, Safety and housekeeping, FDA Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP’s), ISO 9001 Quality System, ISO 14001 Environmental Management System, production goals, collaboration.
  • Key operational role in Excellence in Safety for the department.
  • Implements Fundamentals of Corning Manufacturing in the department including the in-house supervisor’s curriculum for Shift Supervisors.
  • Assures success of the effort to maintain a union-free environment in the Plant by implementing programs and training with supervisors and employees.
  • Emphasizes the development of Shift Supervisors and hourly employees providing effective coaching and feedback.
  • Assures continuous improvement in Climate Survey results.
  • Implementation of Manufacturing Execution System in department.
  • Figure out appropriate operating and staffing level for hourly employees in department.
  • Ensuring appropriate and consistent application of Plant policy in department.
  • Run programs and projects to improve productivity and cost reductions.
  • Input to setting standards and capital for department budget.


Travel Requirements:

  • Less than 10%


Hours of work/work schedule/flex-time:

  • 1st shift core hours: Monday through Friday, 8:00 am - 5:00 pm; additional hours may be needed to support production.


Required Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree


Required Years and Area of Experience:

  • 8 years previous leadership experience or equivalent technical or engineering experience.


Required Skills:

  • Experience working on technical problems or teams with technicians.
  • Prior budget responsibility.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.


Desired Experience / Qualifications / Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering discipline.
  • Employee Relations experience.
  • Safety, Health, Environmental compliance.
  • ERP (SAP or PeopleSoft) experience preferred.
  • Experience in Six Sigma, Lean or Continuous Improvement.
  • Ability to lead multi-functional teams through ambiguity and effectively lead change.
