Scope of Position:  In this role, you will provide polymer materials support for Division-wide or multi-plant projects.  We look for you to maintain knowledge and identifies opportunities for new manufacturing technology to support mission of highest quality and lowest manufacturing cost.  You will champion new technology implementation, assist in selections of new alternative polymers and resins, continuous improvement activities, and fundamental process understanding, in support of new product launches, cost reduction and quality improvement. In the role, you will ensure Corning's Intellectual Property management process is followed and any intellectual property developed as part of a project is properly documented.

 

Day to Day Responsibilities: 

  • Supports and provides input to the Division Technology roadmap
  • Identify new materials and resins for use in our new and current products
  • Work with alternative resin for continuous improves
  • Integral part of the Division resin team for validations of second source resins for cost reductions and supply assurance
  • Focus area on CLS’s sustainable materials policy
  • Drives fundamental understanding and problem-solving skills, including working closely with vendors and plant engineering to resolve manufacturing challenge
  • Work with Development group on identifying new materials, films and resins that meet the product objectives
  • Ensures compliance to all plant and division standards
  • Uses rigorous processes and technical knowledge to build detailed technical understanding for key process steps
  • Uses statistical tools and Design of Experiments (DOE) in process problem-solving and product/process improvement
  • Functions as a team member on focused project
  • Will be a member of the Resin Consul and will work with our distributors and resin vendors

 

Travel Requirements:  Up to 25% domestic and International travel

 

Hours of work/work schedule/flex-time:  Monday – Friday, first shift, but we need your flexibility to support off hours as needed

 

Required Education:  Bachelor of Science degree in Plastics or Polymer Engineering or equivalent degree program required

 

Required Years and Area of Experience:  

  • Minimum of 3-5 years’ experience with the assembly and joining of plastic parts within a manufacturing environment
  • Life Science or Medical Device manufacturing experience

 

Required Skills: 

  • Knowledge of a variety of plastic materials
  • Knowledge of a variety of plastic processes
  • Track record of delivering results
  • Demonstrated knowledge in a technical field
  • Forward-thinking experience within the field of engineering

 

Desired Experience / Qualifications / Skills: 

  • Polymer Science background with experience in characterizing polymers
  • Knowledge of LEAN manufacturing
  • Performance Excellence Green Belt Certification

 

This position supports immigration sponsorship. 


The range for this position is  $78,902.00   -  $108,490.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education. The benefits available for this position are dependent on hours worked and may include medical, dental, vision, 401(k) plan, pension plan, life insurance coverage, disability benefits, and PTO.
