The purpose of this position is:

  • 2nd Shift The Mold Prep Technician is a support function, assisting in the general cleaning and maintenance of plastic injection molds and related components.

This position includes significant duties such as:

  • Assist in the dis-assembly/re-assembly of molds, using various pneumatic and hand type tools.
  • Handle and move mold components, exercising extreme attention to detail and focus.
  • Clean core pins, cavity blocks and related mold plates, using various cleaning agents and abrasive materials.
  • Visual inspection of steel fit and finish conditions and related polished surfaces, communicate any observations to Tool Room Group Leader/Mold Maker/Supervisor.
  • Record work activities utilizing computer maintenance management system.

Criteria for evaluation:

  • Proper handling and cleaning of mold components.
  • Adherence to Tool Room and Corning Policies and Procedures
  • Willingness to work overtime to support production requirements
  • Feedback from peers and customers
  • Adherence to Tool Room and Corning Safety protocol.


  • HS Diploma


  • Knowledge and use of machine shop hand tools and general practices.
  • Basic math and PC understanding
  • Good hand/eye coordination
  • Detailed oriented/ability to focus on repetitious work, handling high value components
  • Good communication and documentation skills
  • Ability to work on several jobs simultaneously
