Scope of Position:

In this role, you will lead late stage new product implementation through industrialization. We look for you to provide leadership and support to assigned new product introduction projects utilizing Manufacturing Innovation Excellence (MIE) standard methodologies. You will establish and promote design for manufacturability protocols, risk mitigation plans and validation plans that support long term success of new products at the plant level. You will lead and effectively handle numerous projects for MIE to meet the business goals and objectives for scale up and growth of the new product being developed & introduced to market. You will coordinate and communicate with extended teams to execute work streams related to assigned projects and use functional resources across Corning globally to provide the necessary support and resources required for achievement of the project objectives and business’ goals. We look for you to establish, build and sustain multiple networks of resources with key innovation skills (“communities of practice”) that can be used to support innovation programs across the organization. You will be responsible for ensuring that for all assigned project(s) in, safety is equally important as cost, quality and timeline and that metrics for safety are established & met/exceeded. Additionally, you will need to understand and challenge project value propositions to promote long term financial success.


Day to Day Responsibilities:

  •  As required by assigned project(s), establish and be responsible for the project management office (PMO) for manufacturing & engineering that is responsible for ensuring the establishment of a manufacturing facility, product and process capable of meeting the required capacity, output, performance, cost and timing.
  • Planning, analysis, reporting and communication about the PMO status & plans to project team members, other functional area resources & leaders and to partners in EIG or corporation/functions.
  • Assigning work and coordinating the activity of sub-teams or functional work streams, collaborating across various corporate functions & the technology community to ensure the project goals & objectives are understood and supported.
  • Meeting with team, sponsor and/or partners to review & agree/align on project scope, budget and resources, plans to achieve goals and progress towards them, to make decisions and establish or make changes to the project direction.
  • Piloting and testing of new project management practices, innovation tools and/or capital spend management tools directly on active innovation programs, gathering feedback and making ongoing improvements.
  • Develop and implement project plans that meets budget, quality and timeline requirements while minimizing risk to the corporation.
  • Work in conjunction and collaborate with Development Engineering and Division Engineering on New product implementations and new process development.
  • Develop, train and execute on methodologies and practices for New product/process implementation


Travel Requirements:

  • Up to 10%, mostly domestic, potential international for vendor visits or research related visits.


Hours of work/work schedule/flex-time:

  • M-F, 8-5, depending on project requirements, specifically for start-up of facility or manufacturing process, some weekend or off shift leadership from this innovation project manager role could be required.


Required Education:

  •  Bachelor’s degree in Engineering discipline.
  • Masters, M.B.A. or equivalent business degree considered a plus.


Required Years and Area of Experience:

  • Minimum 5+ years of project leadership and/or new product introduction experience within a manufacturing industry.


Required Skills:

  • Progressive project management experience with multiple examples of serving as the leader of a project with increasing scope, complexity, responsibility, impact, risk, etc. over several disciplines or industries during career.
  • Track record of delivering projects within cost and schedule with close and timely communications with the internal customer.
  • Manufacturing and/or engineering experiences throughout the product life cycle (Growth and/or decline, new product introductions, turnaround situation, etc.).
  • Experience with capital budgeting.
  • Priority setting focus.
  • Proficient in Project Management skills and methodologies inclusive of Scope Development, Scheduling, Cost & Budget Management, Quality Management and Risk Management.
  • Manufacturing Strategy Formation & Execution.
  • Experience working with global teams, internal customers and partners.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and deliver a solution a wide range of partner and internal-customer expectations.


Desired Experience / Qualifications / Skills:

  • MIE (manufacturing innovation) experience or related experience in translating new product innovations into a scalable manufacturing environment.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification.
  • Direct experience as an innovation project leader or project manager.
  • Direct experience working experience across all innovation stages in multiple projects, i.e. Stage Gate process.
  • Direct experience leading a manufacturing team.
  • Green Belt – Six Sigma, Lean.
