Scope of Position:

 In this role, you will be responsible for leading Corning Life Sciences’ understanding and effective use of plasma and other coating and surface treatment processes across the division. This role will directly support development, engineering, and manufacturing projects to ensure the appropriate technology is chosen and implemented. Key collaboration partners will be with Development and Manufacturing teams. We look for you to support and help define the surfaces and coatings core competency across the Life Science division.

 

Day to Day Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for providing technical expertise and strategic direction for plasma, deposition, and manufacturing technology.
  • Work collaboratively across project teams as assigned and assist in supporting division level process as well as critical initiatives, which may include commercial product support, continuous improvement activities, innovation projects, or other activities related to plasma processes, coatings, and surface treatment.
  • Identify, propose, and communicate new opportunities for plasma processes, coatings, and surface treatment.
  • Support of internal plasma equipment, processes, and technology as well as collaborate with outside vendors on both existing and new equipment and processes.
  • Lead small process development or improvement projects
  • Collaborate with manufacturing facilities as needed.
  • Maintains a high standard of safety performance and conducts all job duties in a safe manner.

 

Travel Requirements:

  • Up to 25% domestic, potential for international in the future.

 

Hours of work/work schedule/flex-time:

  • Standard business hours; Monday – Friday.

 

Required Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, chemical, material science, physics, physical science or related degree program.

 

Required Years and Area of Experience:

  • 4+ years’ experience with plasma processes and coatings or surface treatment.
  • Experience working in a manufacturing environment

 

Required Skills:

  • Experience with processes such as PECVD, plasma-assisted coatings, or atmospheric plasmas
  • Broad knowledge of plasma process and fundamentals.
  • Broad knowledge of vacuum pumps and leak detection techniques.
  • Prior experience with implementation of technologies into manufacturing.
  • Demonstrated ability to solve sophisticated experimental challenges independently and creatively.
  • Ability to lead small project teams.
  • Able to collaborate across organizational boundaries and integrate solutions.
  • Strong experimental practices; can understand fundamentals and recognize deviations and implement routine solutions.

 

Desired Experience / Qualifications / Skills:

  • Prefer Master’s degree or PhD preferred
  • Semiconductor processing
  • CVD or PVD experience
  • Knowledge of Lean Six Sigma, DMAIC, or other problem solving/efficiency tools. Experience within the Life Sciences or medical device industries.
  • Experience with strategic technology development and utilization.
