Scope of Position: Transition and deliver products and processes from mid-stage development to early stage manufacturing and market launch using a rigorous and collaborative definition and data driven approach

 

Day to Day Responsibilities:

• Build and manage a group of diverse Development technical experts to introduce new products and processes into early/bridge/pilot Manufacturing

• Create and assign roles and responsibilities

• Incrementally increase integration and responsibility of Manufacturing personnel throughout a new product/process project following Corning’s Innovation process

• Collaborate with Plant personnel (Engineering, Manufacturing, Procurement, Quality, Scheduling, EHS, etc.) to plan and staff early/bridge/pilot Manufacturing

• Jointly set standards for product quality and process capability with Development, Plant personnel, and Business Operations

• Jointly monitor product and process performance post launch, address short term issues and make recommendations for longer term Manufacturing scale up

• Stay abreast of Business, Capacity, Manufacturing, and Technology strategies to steer projects • Create capital and expense budgets and monitor spend

• Ensure complete documentation of requirements, design intent, experimental plans and results, scope changes, and decisions

 

Travel Requirements:

20% or less Hours of work/work schedule/flex-time: M-F, typically 8am – 5pm, flexible hours may be required to support occasional off-hours experimentation/operations during evenings or weekends

 

Education:

BS in a technical discipline required, MS preferred Experience: 5 years minimum in an R&D or Manufacturing role scaling and/or transferring new products/processes. Prior management/supervision of technical resources

 

Required Skills:

• Working knowledge of Manufacturing Innovation Effectiveness principles and practices

• Working knowledge of product/process definition tools such as House of Quality, PQA, Traceability Matrix, or similar

• Ability to network across locations and with Corporate product/process SMEs to enable training and application of best practices

• Ability to scale and transfer the design and development of new products and associated processes from mid stage development to initial launch

• Use of scientific methods and engineering principles to solve problems thoroughly and effectively, using well-designed and executed experiments

• Effectively use relevant measured and/or modeled data to drive decisions and actions. Analyze process data using statistical tools (e.g. pareto, regression, time charting, analysis of variance, gauge R&R, etc.).

• Employ structured problem solving methods such as Systematic Innovation, Kepner Tregoe (KT), Designed Experimentation, or Six Sigma.

• Ability to ensure manufacturing requirements are properly developed and documented in collaboration with appropriate manufacturing, production, quality, and engineering personnel

• Make recommendations on immediate actions, long term corrective actions, follow-up experiments, etc.

• Develop standard acceptance criteria for new processes including safety, capability, IQ/OQ/PQ • Implement Process Control and Process Discipline systems into early manufacturing operations

• Troubleshoot equipment and processes

• Effective management of technical personnel, including time allocation, prioritization, performance, and development

• Values safety and leads by example

 

Desired Skills:

• Practitioner of Corning tools such as PQA, MIE, SI

• Working knowledge of Corning’s Manufacturing Scalability Playbook
