Scope of Position:

In this role, you will lead a plant injection molding and tooling projects and provide support and continuous improvement of equipment, processes and new products. Maintains knowledge and finds opportunities for new manufacturing technology to support mission of the highest quality and lowest manufacturing cost. Champions continuous improvement activities, including new technology implementation and fundamental process understanding, in support of cost reduction and quality improvement. Ensures Corning's Intellectual Property management process is followed and any intellectual property developed as part of a project is properly documented.


Day to Day Responsibilities:

  • Develop tool drawings and concepts for new tooling.
  • Provide direction and training to tool room associates.
  • Provide support for equipment, processes and new products.
  • Lead tool engineering projects.
  • Develop experiment plans, conduct experiments, and analyze data.
  • Specify and order equipment in support of project work.
  • Track and report on project spending and manage to project spending limits.
  • Estimate cost, timing, and resource requirements for small projects.
  • Draw conclusions from data and make technical recommendations.
  • Give verbal and written updates to supervisor and unit leadership.
  • Contribute to development of a core technology area.
  • Identify key improvement opportunities within the tooling department.


Travel Requirements:

  • Limited, less than 10% domestically.


Hours of work/work schedule/flex-time:

  • Monday – Friday, standard first shift business hours. Flexible start/end times available.


Required Education:

  • High School diploma and Tooling Apprenticeship program completed.


Required Years and Area of Experience:

  • Minimum 10 years’ experience related to building high cavitation injection molds for the medical or highly regulated industry.
  • Minimum 5 years in a tooling engineering role.


Required Skills:

  • Track record of delivering results.
  • Demonstrated knowledge in a tooling related field.
  • Project leadership experience or training.
  • CAD experience, preferably Solid works
  • Track record of accomplishment on small projects or production support.
  • Experience working on technical problems or teams with technicians.


Desired Experience / Qualifications / Skills:

  • Bachelors of Science degree in engineering with experience as a tooling engineer in a manufacturing facility.
  • Prior management or leadership experience.
  • Certified Green Belt or equivalent statistical knowledge.
  • Experience with injection molding process development and debug
  • RJG Master Molder 1 training or equivalent.
