To support our Process Development department in Krailling, we are looking, immediately for a Laser Process Development Engineer (m/f/d) From developing innovative processes, to observing and evaluating technologies and IP in the international laser community, to transferring processes from the lab to a 24/7 customer tool - both the scope and detail of the tasks and the responsibilities associated with these tasks are unique.

 

SCOPE OF POSITION:

• As a Laser Processing Expert on our team, your role will encompass the development, analysis and documentation of laser processes for processing various (new) materials, including glass and ceramics.

• You should possess deep knowledge in laser-matter interaction and optics.

• The position entails you to employ scientific and engineering principles to build fundamental understanding of laser interaction with different materials and convey this to innovative solutions.

• Transfer of laser processes from the lab into a 24/7 laser systems and support through all stages of innovation (research  manufacturing).

• An essential component of this role is the ability to concisely and clearly document and communicate technical results to your colleagues and team members.

• Be an active member of the laser processing team, work cooperatively with other scientists/engineers on the team and with people across all organizations (RD&E, Sales, Service and Manufacturing) to create innovative process and hardware solutions.

• Support the Sales team by development of samples meeting or exceeding the customer’s requirement.

• Training of the operators and engineers of our laser system customers.

• Support machine tool buyoff including Acceptance tests and Ramp-Up (on-site support).

 

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND SKILLS:

• We require a PhD or Master’s degree in Physics, Optical Physics, Optical Engineering (or equivalent), specialized in lasers and laser processing.

• Proven knowledge of and experience with laser/matter interactions (5+ years is beneficial).

• Experience with opto-mechanical systems, laser beam delivery, measurement equipment and related design and engineering principles.

• You should be comfortable with experimental planning to test hypotheses, conducting experiments, along with executing theoretical analysis to explain and quantify the underlying physical mechanisms.

• Ability to work with team members across variety of technology fields (e.g. physics, chemistry, material science) to solve system-level problems as part of developing new processes or hardware.

• Data analysis skills: ability to analyze process data, identify and quantify trends, and use this information to guide improved laser process solutions.

 

DESIRED SKILLS:

• Laser processing experience specific to glass and laser processing systems integration.

• Technical: Understanding of glass technology, glass compositions/types, methods of glass forming and manufacture, and laser cutting of glass. Knowledge of statistical analysis tools is a plus (e.g. design of experiments, statistical process control).
