Role Purpose

The engineering intern will work with industrial controls and automated systems. The position will have responsibility for electrical systems documentation, standards verification and technical assistance for immediate process and product problems that impact overall plant performance.  May include installation, start up, commissioning, troubleshooting, documentation and repair of a wide variety of industrial instrumentation, electronic monitoring, metering, controlling, and signaling devices used in production.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assists in problem solving, to ensure timely resolution of short-term equipment issues, and higher level troubleshooting.
  • Provides assistance in creating electrical drawings
  • Maintains, updates, and inventories controls parts database
  • Documents electrical control systems components throughout the facility
  • Develop an understanding of facility controls infrastructure, involving PLC, HMI, and other electrical/controls software and documentation
  • May be involved in cost reduction, capacity enhancement, capital equipment and other improvement initiatives.
  • Meet all Environmental, Safety and Health requirements
  • Follows proper electrical safety procedures

Experiences/Education - Required

  • Pursing an engineering-related degree in areas such as Electrical, Systems, Industrial or Applied Engineering Technology.
  • Must be available for 10 weeks during Summer 2026 (May-August 2026) with a graduation date of December 2026 or later
  • Be interested in working for Corning, Inc after graduation, if presented with a full-time job opportunity.
  • Be willing to work at the posted job location: Manassas, Virginia
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills
  • Strong organizational skills, detail-oriented
  • High skill level with Microsoft Office Suite (PowerPoint, Word, Excel)
  • Ability to work well under pressure and adapt to changing project requirements and deadlines
  • Self-motivated; takes initiative
  • Ability to work in a team environment
  • Mechanical aptitude to perform day to day tasks

​The range for this position is $1,635.00 - $3,185.00 biweekly.  Starting pay for the successful applicant is prescribed based on geographic location, nature of position, and year in school.
