As a leading developer, manufacturer, and global supplier of scientific laboratory products for 100 years, Corning’s Life Sciences segment collaborates with researchers seeking new approaches to increase efficiencies, reduce costs and compress timelines in the drug discovery process. Using unique expertise in the fields of materials science, surface science, optics, biochemistry and biology, the segment provides innovative solutions that improve productivity and enable breakthrough discoveries.

Role Purpose

Tests and inspects products at various stages of the production process to determine and maintain the quality and reliability of products.  Achieve department requirements for safety, quality, product release, equipment uptime, sample throughput, and cost. Ensures goods are tested to meet release commitments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform in process testing including pH, osmolality, rapid endotoxin test, TOC, conductivity, and density
  • Perform line clearances in support of liquid manufacturing and powder manufacturing
  • Distribute manufacturing samples to retention/stability storage (as appropriate) and staging locations for post-production testing
  • Perform and review verification of calibration and preventive maintenance of equipment and keep the equipment in general working order within the laboratory
  • Perform and review environmental monitoring of cleanrooms including viable and non-viable air sampling and surface sampling
  • Testing responsibilities in one or more of the following areas including advanced test methods:
     

Microbiology: 

  • Perform and review biological/microbiological testing including sterility, bacteriastasis/fungistasis, antibiotic microbial assay, microbial limits, powder bioburden, USP/EP growth promotion

 

Chemistry:  

  • Perform and review wet chemistry testing on raw materials and finished products as well as perform USP/EP WFI testing of water products  
  • Perform and review biochemical assays including DNase, RNase, Protease, glucose, protein, kinetic chromogenic endotoxin testing, and powder particle size

 

Cell Culture: 

  • Perform and review cell culture testing including plating efficiency, kill curve, two week growth promotion, confirmatory testing, toxicity testing, and trypsin testing  
  • Train QC personnel, ensuring procedures are being followed correctly and in compliance with established safety and training programs  
  • Responsible for out-of-specification (OOS) investigations and root cause analysis

 

Performance Metrics  

  • Capability and Capacity (On-time product release, On-time LIR and NCMR closure) Culture (Procedural compliance, GDP compliance)

Experiences/Education - Required

  • High school diploma with 2 years relevant experience OR a 2-year degree in a science related field with 1-year relevant experience
  • Familiarity with cGxP environments and QC testing methodologies (e.g., pH, osmolality, density, endotoxin, sterility, cell culture, and microbiological methods)
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Must be detail-oriented
  • Able to work well both independently and in a group setting

Experiences/Education - Desired

  • Track record of delivering results
  • Demonstrated knowledge in field such as familiarity with QC testing methodologies (e.g. pH, osmolality, density, endotoxin, sterility, cell culture, and microbiological methods)
  • Understanding of Manufacturing processes for product formulation, CIP, SIP, etc.

The range for this position is $57,578.00 - $79,171.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education. The benefits available for this position are dependent on hours worked and may include medical, dental, vision, 401(k) plan, pension plan, life insurance coverage, disability benefits, and PTO.
