Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.
Scope of Position:
Responsible for driving both basic and advanced lean competencies within the division and across the manufacturing plants. These competencies include but are not limited to Value Steam Mapping, Visual Management, Work Standardization, Gemba Engagement, Kanban, SMED, 5S, Pull Systems, etc. With these core competencies, this role will lead and facilitate lean initiatives across the manufacturing sites to improve performance in Safety, Quality, Cost, Delivery, Morale, and Innovation. The role will facilitate the sharing and proliferation of best practices across regions. The champion will support integration of Lean efforts as part of OCS’s ‘CLImB’ (Continual Improvement Bridge) cultural effort. The intent of this role is to facilitate, train, and proliferate Lean capabilities within the organization in support of achieving OCS’ targets for operational key results. Success is defined by operating units achieving targets for manufacturing cost, increased productivity, and delivery lead times.
Day to Day Responsibilities:
• Leading and coordinating collaborative Lean deployment efforts at the division level with responsibility for coordination and tracking both local and division performance. This includes aligning support to enable local achievement of the value stream / product team objectives (OKRs) and continual improvement plans. Opportunity identification and prioritization will be through the regional PEx Champions, the CLImB deployment team, and Plant PEMs and POMs.
• Monitoring and track (through eVSM) results in order to assess improvement progress and identify and recommend steps to apply Lean for further success.
• Facilitating / Supporting completion of Kaizen events per year at manufacturing sites / region. This will include workshops focused on Value Stream Mapping, Kanban, SMED, 5S etc. with Lean facilitation in support of CLImB prioritized opportunities. Coordinating follow-up to ensure best practice sharing across OCS facilities.
• Ensuring robust 5S programs are deployed at each of the manufacturing sites in conjunction with routine Gemba performance audits with leadership and representation across all departments in the facility and throughout the manufacturing plants. This individual will proliferate 5S and the subsequent Gemba audit standardization in conjunction with lean leadership.
• Ensuring an overall lean cost reduction portfolio for the division. Leading appropriate dashboard reviews with leadership teams. Deploying benchmark opportunities at the across sites at the division level.
Required Qualifications:
• BS Degree (Industrial Engineering Strongly Preferred)
• MS Degree (Engineering Preferred)
• 10 Years of Lean Engineering Experience
• 3+ Years of Manufacturing Supervisory Experience
• Demonstrated progressive roles in leadership in conjunction with lean manufacturing experience (with the ability to articulate real lean tool application with demonstrated results).
• Ability to share vision and move locations from understanding strategy to demonstrated execution
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal) with ability to present ideas, opinions, and data to gain understanding consensus, and support.
• Knowledge of manufacturing methods, systems, and production processes.
• Process/results oriented with organizational and attention-to-detail abilities.
Travel Requirements:
5% to 10% for EMEA and APAC support. On site in MX expected to be greater than 50%.

The range for this position is $116,625.00 - $160,360.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education. The benefits available for this position are dependent on hours worked and may include medical, dental, vision, 401(k) plan, pension plan, life insurance coverage, disability benefits, and PTO.
