Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.

 

Job Description:

Play a leading role in the architecture and complete software development cycle for our LTE, and 5G wireless products, with specific focus on the PHY layer. The ideal candidate has a wireless communication systems background, a passion for building real-world carrier-grade communication systems, and industry experience developing PHY layer software in DSPs and virtualized general purpose processors (x86).

 

Responsibilities:

• Design, develop, enhance, and maintain wireless algorithms and embedded software for LTE/5G radio access networks and other advanced technologies.

• Understand PHY-layer procedures, expected behavior, and typical performance tradeoffs, especially as they relate to PHY and overall system performance.

• Complete ownership of PHY-layer algorithms, their implementation in C/C++ code, and real-world system performance.

• Participate in architecture, design, and code reviews and provide peer feedback on a continuous basis.

• Lead a distributed development team, including third-party companies, in developing best-in-class carrier grade vRAN based PHY solution for 5G based on an x86 platform.

• Understand DU requirements and solution for hosting on container-based cloud-native environments.

• Debug complex issues seen during QA testing, at customer field trials, and at live customer deployments.

 

Requirements:

• MS in Electrical Engineering with focus on signal processing and implementation architectures.

• Understanding of wireless communications and MAC/scheduler layers.

• 5 years industry experience in in DSP/C/C++ programming for design and development of wireless software including stellar debugging skills.

• Strong understanding of 5G NR PHY from both systems and low-level 3GPP spec point of view. Broad understanding of the entire 5G/LTE wireless system. Ability to switch between high-level systems view and low-level detail view of complex wireless systems.

• Comfortable using wireless lab equipment such as signal generators, network analyzers, power meters, etc
