Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.


Software Project Manager


About the Job:

You will lead a multi-functional team to deliver 5G wireless networking software solutions for Corning 5G product platforms that meets customer and regulatory requirements. The work includes managing technical workstreams that perform design, development and testing of software, integration with 3rd party subsystems/solutions, software release management, maintenance and change management. In addition to driving internal product development, you will also engage with external partner/vendor on development and integration with Corning products.


Day to Day Responsibilities:

• Work with product management and field teams to collect requirements, lead reviews and scope the requirements and plan releases

• Prepare project plan in coordination with development and QA teams. When deviation occurs, work with the team to put a mitigation plan in place and ensure timely delivery

• Ensure development processes are followed throughout the project life cycle

• Track project risks and actively work on mitigation

• When needed, lead team through structured problem solving and decision making

• Provide periodic update to the immediate and senior leadership

• Manage project budget


Education and Experience:

• Bachelor’s degree in Software Engineering or related discipline

• 5 to 8 years of professional experience in software development or engineering

• Minimum 5 years of experience in program/project management in software development

• Experience in leading global, multifunctional, diverse teams

• Hands on experience with modern software development practices

• Demonstrated ability to align technical plans and deliverables with business objectives

• Strong verbal and written communication skills

• Ability and willingness to get things done through influence at all levels of the organization

• Ability to work through minimal guidance and experience in working through ambiguity

• Experience in leading or developing telecommunication software is preferred

• Experience in leading electronics hardware development project is a bonus • PMP® certificate is desirable but not required

• Ability to foster collaborative team dynamics in a challenging business environment

• Attention to details in data, project plans and execution

• Shows bias for action when gaps and technical issues are identified


Travel Requirement: We estimate < 15%, including international travel  


Hours of work/work schedule/flex-time:

• Standard full-time daytime hours. • We need flexibility for morning/evening hours as needed to manage a global team
