Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.

 

Role & Responsibilities:

The role is in the Systems Engineering team within Corning Wireless business unit. Corning wireless business unit provides world class 4G & 5G Radio Access Network (RAN) and Distributed Antenna System (DAS) solutions. Corning RAN and DAS solutions are typically deployed in indoor and outdoor venues, such as stadiums, malls, hotels, hospitals & enterprises) to enable delivery of high quality& high capacity 4G & 5G mobile services on the site. Corning wireless RAN and DAS solutions support 3G, 4G, Sub6 5G and millimeterwave 5G technologies.

 

The role involves:

• Support Product Management with market/product requirements and defining solution release scope.

• Analysis and translation of customer requirements/industry standard into system level architecture.

• Lead the system level architecture definition and translate it to specification and requirements documents.

• Requirements Management: Perform impact analysis of changes to the requirements.

• Design process support: Support software development teams during high level design phase to ensure requirements compliance.

• Verification and Validation process support: Provide guidance and lead integration efforts as required to ensure full systems requirements are met and product meets specifications.

• Cross-functional coordination and operations with Product Management, Engineering, Marketing, Professional Services and Customer Support teams.

 

Education and Experience:

 • BS/MS/Ph.D. in Computer Science, Wireless Communications or related field.

• At least 10 years of hands-on experience in R&D roles encompassing the following:

• 3 years of experience in technical management leading a team

• 3 years of experience as system engineer.

• Hands-on experience in software development

• Strong knowledge in many of the following areas: Mobile Communication systems, 4G, 5G, Radio Access Networks, 3GPP RAN architecture & protocols, ORAN RAN architecture and protocols, IP networking, TCP/UDP protocols, Ethernet switching, RAN Layer 3, Radio Resource Management (RRM), Self-Organizing Networks (SON) and Management Systems

• Experience in RAN product development including cloud RAN solutions

• Networking, SDN, NFV with working fundamentals in distributed system principles.

• Hands-on experience and strong knowledge in virtual infrastructure design, including Docker, Kubernetes, VMware and OpenStack

• Hands-on experience and working knowledge in systems security

• Strong system level knowledge in Linux

• End to End multi-disciplinary System Integration experience

 

Preferred Requirements

• Be able to define best practices, reference architectures for developing secure, high performing, highly available solutions in the cloud. Telco cloud experience will be of added value.

• Strong experience of working with DevOps principles, CI/ CD, Continuous Deployment Pipelines using Jenkins etc.

• Knowledge in SNMP and Netconf based NMS/EMS solutions and Implementation

Ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary, multi-site, multicultural teams and to proactively take a leadership role when appropriate

• Ability to think through complex problems, analyze and break it down into parts to resolve or perform timely escalation to higher tier resources

• Ability to handle various tasks, simultaneously organize, prioritize, make decisions and work efficiently and effectively under challenging deadlines.
