Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.

What does a Wireless Software Engineer at Corning do?

This is a meaningful position where you will play a critical role in the architecture and complete software development cycle for our LTE and 5G wireless products. There is a specific focus on MAC and PHY layers. If you have a wireless communication systems background, a passion for building real-world carrier-grade communication systems and industry experience developing MAC or PHY layer software in C/C++, this is the ideal role for you!

 

What does a typical day look like for a Wireless Software Engineer?

You will…  

  • As a dedicated engineer, you’ll design, develop, enhance, and maintain wireless algorithms and embedded software for LTE/5G radio access networks and other advanced technologies  
  • Understand PHY-layer procedures, expected behavior, and typical performance tradeoffs, especially as they relate to MAC and overall system performance  
  • Use your analytical skills to design and implement MAC-layer algorithms in C/C++ code  
  • Actively participate in architecture, design, and code reviews; provide peer feedback on a continuous basis  
  • Debug complex issues seen during QA testing, at customer field trials, and at live customer deployments

What Qualifications do we look for?  

  • If you have a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or Electrical Engineering with a minimum of 2+ years industry experience in embedded C/C++ programming for design and development of wireless software OR New Grad with advanced Degree and solid in C/C++ programming, you sound like a great fit!  
  • Broad understanding of LTE or 5G wireless system  
  • Understanding of wireless communications or digital signal processing is a plus!  
  • Ability to switch between high-level systems view and low-level detail view of complex wireless systems  
  • Comfortable using wireless lab equipment such as signal generators, network analyzers, power meters, etc.
