Scope of Position
- Plant Quality Manager for scientific glass manufacturing location for, but not limited to, volumetric and serologic pipets, media bottles, flasks, beakers, volumetric flasks, burets, cylinders (TC and TD), and special applications. Ensure that the plant quality management systems (QMS) are designed and executed for compliance to ISO 9001, 14001, and 17025 as well as customer requirements and expectations. Manage the on-site accredited calibration laboratory and serve as Corning Mexicana representative at the Mexican Accreditation Entity (EMA).
- Serve as a member of the plant leadership staff collaborating with the plant manager, operations leadership, engineering leadership, and commercial team to ensure compliance to the QMS and to advance continuous improvement in the plant products and processes.
- Collaborate with other locations in the Life Sciences Technologies (LST) organization and other organizations such as division engineer, research and development, and corporate engineering to find best practices and cost reduction opportunities.
- Position reports to regional quality manager with dotted line reporting the Monterrey plant manager.
Day to Day Responsibilities
- Responsible for developing and maintaining plant strategic quality plan and policies. Work with leadership to develop quality objectives and goals that support plant and business objectives.
- Accountable for the effective execution of processes carried out by prioritizing and managing people, resources, and budget to accomplish expected requirements and performance.
- Engage and provide leadership directions/objectives, coaching, and personal development of quality department personnel to perform to their best ability and meet both personal and plant objectives.
- Act as the plant “Management Representative” for certification bodies, customers, and other organizations by hosting related audits and ensuring effective resolution of findings.
- Maintain the quality management systems to ensure compliance to ISO and other industry standards and customer expectations.
- Respond quickly and effectively to customer complaints and issues. Serve as the customer advocate in the plant.
- Ensure that appropriate quality assurance and quality control resources are available to assist in the resolution of technical issues affecting supply of raw materials, in-process and finished goods. Develop, modify, apply, and maintain quality evaluation and control systems and protocols for processing materials from raw materials to finished products.
- Develop and implement methods and procedures for inspection, testing, and evaluating the precision and accuracy of products and production equipment.
- Monitor inspection and testing processes and equipment, conduct quality assurance tests, and perform statistical analysis to assess the cost of and determine the responsibility for products or materials that do not meet required standards and specifications.
- Work with process and product improvement teams regarding key product attributes to develop appropriate control strategies and feedback loops to achieve low-cost manufacturing, superior quality and service, and improved capability and capacity.
Required Education & Experience
- BS Degree in engineering or science (Master’s desirable)
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in manufacturing, engineering, and/or quality. Experience in glass industry is desirable.
- Minimum of 2 years working at a location with a quality management system (regulated industry preferred – ISO, cGMP, GLP, CRF, FDA, etc)
- Administration of a laboratory environment
Required Skills
- Data-based decision-making skills with the ability to use data to proactively find solutions
- Understanding of statistical and data analysis concepts and their application in manufacturing and ability to use statistical analysis tools such as Minitab, JMP, or other.
- Ability to drive root cause analysis and direct engineering solutions
- Demonstrated strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build relationships with customers, suppliers, and co-workers both within the plant and at other Corning locations
- Fluent in English
Desired Skills
- Knowledge of ISO management systems (ISO 9001, ISO/IEC-17025, ISO-13485 preferred)
- Strong project and process management skills
- Six Sigma training/certification (Green Belt or Black Belt)
- Experience with data collection and data analysis software and techniques
- Experience with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP)
- Principles of volumetric vessel calibration and introduction to uncertainty calculations
- ASTM standards for the manufacture of borosilicate material for use in the laboratory

House of work/work schedule/flextime
- Flex time; typical minimum schedule is Monday to Friday, 8am to 5pm
- Occasional weekend or overnight support for developments or special projects
