As a leading developer, manufacturer, and global supplier of scientific laboratory products for 100 years, Corning’s Life Sciences segment collaborates with researchers seeking new approaches to increase efficiencies, reduce costs and compress timelines in the drug discovery process. Using unique expertise in the fields of materials science, surface science, optics, biochemistry and biology, the segment provides innovative solutions that improve productivity and enable breakthrough discoveries.

The purpose of this position is:

Working in a laboratory environment, processes fetal bovine and calf bovine serum products from harvested bovine blood ensuring maximum quality and serum output Produces and packages bovine serum products for commercial use.

 

This position includes significant duties such as:

• Responsible for lab prep and set up for whole blood processing.

• Processes whole blood into serum using centrifugation and separation techniques.

• Expresses serum into container and centrifuges through multiple processes.

• Pours and strains serum after centrifugation to separate from red blood cells.

• Properly disposes of unusable material.

• Operates pumps to transfer serum into pooling tanks.

• Performs final filling processes including.

• Packages product into final container after segregation.

• Weighs product to make sure it is within specifications.

• Ensure proper documentation and labeling of serum.

• Ensure cleanliness of bottles and laboratory environment.

• Ensure finished product is stored properly in freezer.

• Perform proper sampling and hemoglobin testing of finished products.

 

Working Conditions: 

  • Disagreeable working conditions. Works in laboratory environment with extreme hot/cold temperatures, exposed to high noise levels, walking/ standing long hours. Repetitious movement, continuous light manufacturing. Ability to lift objects up to 50 lbs. 

 

Education:

  • High school diploma or equivalent 

 

Experience:

  • No experience required
  • Requires Dexterity: Good hand/ eye coordination to extract serum
  • Attention to Detail: Performing tests requires exact measurements

 

The range for this position is ​$21.00 hourly rate - $24.25 hourly rate.  Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education.
