Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.

Role Purpose

Lead the assigned engineering teams across the Trivium campus to achieve safety, quality, asset effectiveness, cost, inventory, service, and growth targets.  Coordinate with section supervisors to ensure consistency of engineering approach and employee management at TCP1 and TCP2.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own and meet department production targets while ensuring robust engineering solutions and systems to achieve daily, weekly, and monthly goals.
  • Develop portfolios to improve yield, cost, and efficiency, supporting plant-wide yearly objectives.
  • Align supervisors across buildings to standardize operations, processes, SOPs, support models, and employee development.
  • Foster relationships to drive standardization and collaboration across plants in the Catawba campus.
  • Integrate major program priorities (e.g., new products, capacity expansions) into plant operations effectively.
  • Lead process control and change management efforts to improve capability and mitigate operational variation.
  • Define roles and responsibilities, enforce adherence to safety standards, and hold personnel accountable.
  • Manage and develop section supervisors, team leaders, technicians, and engineers while optimizing resources and talent.
  • Collaborate with support groups (Operations, IT, Planning, Finance) to continuously improve production performance.
  • Deploy and oversee programs to attract, develop, and retain manufacturing talent, ensuring training plans for all salaried employees.
  • Safeguard Corning’s Intellectual Property within the department.
  • Approve all process/equipment changes and experimental plans, maintaining adherence to standards of excellence.
  • Promote positive relations through transparent communication and engagement strategies.
  • Drive organizational effectiveness via innovations and continuous improvement in manufacturing and business processes.

Experiences/Education - Required

  • Bachelor of Arts and Science – engineering degree preferred.
  • 10+ years experience to multiple manufacturing processes and corporate network and resources.
  • 6+ years of successful and proven supervisory, team leader and/or section supervisor experience in a manufacturing plant environment (equivalent leadership experience considered).
  • Experience and accountability for developing, implementing, and driving results for MBO’s and manufacturing line metrics.
  • Proven capability to lead, coach, direct and develop salaried exempt and nonexempt employees
  • Training in employee effectiveness, conflict resolution, coaching, listening skills, and supervisory effectiveness.
  • In depth knowledge of Six Sigma and Performance Excellence Principles
  • Training, understanding, and demonstrated competence in cost accounting, managing for profitability.
  • Trained and experienced in fundamentals of environmental stewardship, safety, and health.
  • Experience managing the talent development strategy for the department, including programs to attract, develop and retain key talent.
  • Led or participated in a cross-functional team in a manufacturing environment responsible for delivering key improvement initiative or cost reduction program.

Experiences/Education - Desired

  • Led or participated in a project team responsible to develop and/or launch a new product into manufacturing.
  • Proven track record in collaborating, interfacing, and communicating upward and outward (Plant, Business and Division).
  • Certified Six Sigma Black belt or Green Belt

The range for this position is $147,107.00 - $202,273.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education. The benefits available for this position are dependent on hours worked and may include medical, dental, vision, 401(k) plan, pension plan, life insurance coverage, disability benefits, and PTO.
