Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.

Role Purpose

Provide second-level technical expertise in PLC controls troubleshooting, automation support, and continuous improvement for 24/7 manufacturing operations. Independently execute projects, apply sound engineering methods, and enhance manufacturing capability through the implementation of robust control and automation solutions.

 

 

What You'll Do

  • Work closely with Controls Engineers to implement time-based and event-based control sequence logic, fail-safe states, and process or equipment recovery sequences.
  • Implement and integrate field devices that meet process requirements and site control standards.
  • Estimate project timelines, execute assigned work, and deliver results within agreed schedules.
  • Participate in engineering project teams responsible for delivering reliable and cost-effective automation and process machine systems.
  • Troubleshoot complex automation issues and support the resolution of project-related technical challenges.
  • Drive deployment of control architectures, control standards, and system integration solutions that meet manufacturing requirements.
  • Interface with external system integrators and machine builders to support project deliverables.
  • Participate in fabrication, off-line integration and testing, documentation, installation, startup support, training, and technology transfer activities.
  • Provide regular progress updates to project leadership on assigned project activities.

 

Qualifications

  • Experience integrating field devices for flow, material handling, motion, temperature control, and safety systems into automated equipment platforms.
  • Strong knowledge of PLC programming (Ladder Logic or equivalent), PID loop tuning, HMI/GUI development, and control system architectures.
  • Understanding of electrical design practices, machine and motion control, electro-mechanical systems, robotics, programming, and system integration.
  • Experience collaborating with IT, process engineers, and cross-functional project teams to implement control logic, fail-safe states, and recovery sequences.
  • Ability to estimate project timelines, execute work independently, and meet deliverables.
  • Experience supporting integrated machine control, automation, and process systems within manufacturing environments.
  • Familiarity with control system integration, PLCs, motion control, robotics, vision systems, risk assessment, and safety systems.
  • Strong troubleshooting, analytical, decision-making, and teamwork skills.
  • Experience in electrical control panel checkout and verification.
  • Allen-Bradley PLC experience preferred.

 

Education & Experience

  • Associate degree or two-year technical degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Mechatronics, or a related technical field.
  • 3+ years of experience in industrial controls, automation, or manufacturing equipment.

 

Work Schedule

  • Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM

The range for this position is $70,954.00 - $97,562.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education.
