Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.

Role Purpose

 

Corning Incorporated is seeking a Manufacturing Section Supervisor to lead front-line supervisors and hourly associates at our Newton, NC facility — with direct accountability for safety, quality, cost, delivery, and team morale. This is an opportunity to make a tangible operational impact through cross-functional partnerships with engineering, maintenance, planning, and the lean organization.

 

Key Responsibilities

 

  • Lead daily, weekly, and monthly manufacturing performance; rapidly identify and resolve bottlenecks, manage staffing changes, and maintain optimal queue levels to meet on-time manufacturing (OTM) and on-time-to-promise (OTP) targets
  • Manage department labor spend and staffing model strategically; apply overtime as needed, anticipate capacity-driven changes, and drive efficiency through cross-training initiatives
  • Partner with planning and scheduling to execute the production plan across changeovers, equipment upgrades, engineering experiments, and new product introductions (NPI); lead operational readiness for major equipment upgrades
  • Collaborate with the lean organization to drive Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) improvements through setup time reduction and unplanned downtime elimination
  • Lead, coach, and develop a team of salaried supervisors and hourly associates; hold individuals accountable to safety and quality scorecards and ensure active development plans are in place for all salaried employees

 

Required Qualifications

 

  • Bachelor of Science degree in a technical or business discipline
  • 5+ years of manufacturing experience with a demonstrated record of leadership progression
  • Direct people management experience with both salaried and hourly (non-exempt) teams, including demonstrated skills in conflict resolution, coaching, active listening, and team development
  • Proven ability to drive results through manufacturing performance metrics across safety, quality, cost, delivery, and morale
  • Demonstrated ability to manage competing priorities and respond effectively to operational disruptions in a fast-paced manufacturing environment

 

Desired Qualifications

 

  • MBA or advanced technical graduate degree
  • Six Sigma Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve, Control (DMAIC) Green Belt and/or demonstrated Lean manufacturing capabilities
  • Experience leading cross-functional teams to deliver operational improvement initiatives or cost reduction programs
  • Background supporting or leading new product introduction (NPI) projects from concept through manufacturing launch
  • Experience building and executing a talent management strategy, including programs to attract, develop, and retain key manufacturing talent

The range for this position is $98,662.00 - $135,660.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education.
