Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.

Role Purpose

Proactively maintaining quality measurement systems, including optical test and offline measurement hardware to ensure that Corning’s products meet specifications and key attributes are accurately quantified. In this role the technician will take ownership of Maximo preventive maintenance requirements for all optical test stations and manage offline gage calibrations using the GageTrak software system and work closely with NCP Operations and Maintenance groups, to support issue resolutions and process improvements. Cooperative work with quality technicians from HCP and TCP will be required to support the Catawba campus’ optical test station needs as well. Participation in plant quality system audits will be required which involves the audit itself, detailed reporting, plus tracking and aiding in corrective actions, once the candidate is certified in this area.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintenance and repair of optical test stations at NCP
  • Off-hours support for optical test stations in the three Catawba area plants
  • Ownership of the plant’s GageTrak data and compliance
  • Coordination of third-party vendor calibration and repair for requires measurement systems
  • Assisting in MSA evaluation of measurement systems in the plant.
  • Cross training and coverage of other quality systems owned by the department, such as incoming quality assurance and monthly reporting of quality objectives.
  • Evaluate process procedures to identify gaps and potential improvements
  • Working within the manufacturing plants Windchill, ETQ, STRAMS, etc. systems as required
  • Assist in writing and approving standard operating procedures, and other manufacturing work instructions and forms.

Experiences/Education - Required

  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • 2+ years' experience in a manufacturing environment (operations, special project or technical support roles)
  • Ability to complete assignments accurately and at a pre-defined schedule
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team
  • Ability to Effectively Communicate within plant and division support groups.
  • Mechanical understanding of basic measuring tools (calipers, micrometers, etc.)
  • Basic understanding of cabling process and equipment
  • Familiarity with computer applications such as Microsoft Word, and Excel
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and issues effectively

Experiences/Education - Desired

  • Other technician and/or operator roles that lead to a better understanding of the ribbon equipment & processes.
  • OASYS handler training certification
  • Working knowledge of mechanical assemblies

The range for this position is $65,232.00 - $89,694.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education. The benefits available for this position are dependent on hours worked and may include medical, dental, vision, 401(k) plan, pension plan, life insurance coverage, disability benefits, and PTO.
