Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.

About the Role:
We are seeking a talented Electrical Controls Engineer to manage and execute electrical and controls projects that enhance process efficiency, reduce costs, and support capital expansion initiatives. In this role, you will lead and participate in cross-functional teams, providing technical expertise for plant control systems. Your solutions will drive automation, improve raw material processing, and optimize ware handling systems in novel manufacturing methods.
Key Responsibilities:
- Integrate field devices for flow control, motion control, material handling, and safety systems into fully functional equipment platforms.
- Work with IT and process engineers to define system requirements and fail-safe mechanisms.
- Select and specify field devices aligned with site standards and process needs.
- Develop control architectures and integration plans that enhance production and process efficiency.
- Lead feasibility testing, prototyping, and documentation for system designs.
- Provide expertise in PLC, HMI, and drive systems, ensuring seamless system integration.
- Support plant operations with troubleshooting and maintenance beyond electrical associate capabilities.
- Train personnel and support qualification of new equipment and manufacturing processes.
- Assist in long-term solutions for equipment performance optimization, including capital planning.
- Maintain compliance with NFPA79 standards and best practices in industrial electrical safety.
Work Schedule & Travel:
- Typical hours: 8AM-5PM, Monday-Friday, with occasional off-hours support.
- Travel requirements: up to 25%, including possible international travel.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Mechatronics Engineering Technology (EE preferred).
- At least 5 years of relevant experience in electrical controls engineering.
- Hands-on experience in PLC programming (AB RSLogix, Siemens S7, Omron, or G&L).
- Strong knowledge of electrical design, control system integration, and risk assessment.
- Ability to program in ladder logic and develop HMI/SCADA solutions.
- Expertise in industrial machinery electrical safety, including arc flash regulations.
- Project management skills with a proven track record in executing technical solutions.
- Preferred experience in cable manufacturing processes, MES, VB.NET, AutoCAD, and PI Data Historian.
- Green Belt certification is a plus.

The range for this position is $105,070.00 - $144,471.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education. The benefits available for this position are dependent on hours worked and may include medical, dental, vision, 401(k) plan, pension plan, life insurance coverage, disability benefits, and PTO.
