Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.

Corning Shared Services (CSS) supports Corning’s global operations and delivers profitable growth through evolving  processes, ensuring compliance, and executing vital transactions.   The CSS Manager, Lease and Internal Controls is primarily responsible for managing the end-to-end lease lifecycle and ensuring the integrity of lease data, accounting,  systems, and controls. Secondarily, the role supports internal controls coaching and engagement, partnering closely with  ACR to help process owners understand control expectations and maintain high integrity across Finance. 

 

Key Responsibilities: 
• End-to-end lease operations: Coordinate lease intake, validation, master data maintenance, and system updates;  partner with Business Financial Controllers, Workplace Services (WPS), Lease Center of Excellence, Staffs Controllership, and ACR to ensure accuracy and completeness.
• Lease accounting support: Ensure that appropriate review for routine lease journal entries (additions, modifications,  terminations), reconcile lease-related accounts, and maintain documentation and audit trails.
• System integrity: Perform periodic data hygiene reviews and control checks in lease and ERP systems; monitor  interfaces and resolve discrepancies promptly.
• Controls and compliance: Execute defined control procedures over leasing (SOX, policy adherence); prepare  schedules, evidence, and walkthroughs for internal/external audit requests.
• Reporting and analytics: Maintain trackers and simple dashboards (e.g., expirations, payments, assets/liabilities) and  provide clear status updates to stakeholders.
• Process documentation and training: Draft/update SOPs, playbooks, and templates for lease operations and controls;  support training and knowledge sharing with Finance and WPS.
• Issue management: Log control deficiencies or process gaps, partner with owners on practical remediation plans,  track to closure, and escalate risks when needed.
• Internal controls: Assists ACR with testing the design/operating effectiveness of key controls, SOX scoping updates,  and controls rationalization; help coach process owners on control basics and good documentation practices.
• Technical accounting support (leases): Assist with simple technical memos and policy updates related to lease  accounting and raise potential issues for review.
• Continuous improvement: Identify opportunities to streamline lease and control processes to improve accuracy, 
cycle time, and transparency.

 

 Experiences/Education – Required
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting; Preferred: CPA or progress toward CPA
• 1–4 years of experience in financial accounting, audit, or internal controls (internships/co-ops count)
• Strong proactive communication and stakeholder engagement; ability to execute to a framework/plan/deliverables
• Foundational understanding of US GAAP and internal control principles (SOX/COSO).
• Familiarity with ERP and financial systems; ability to learn lease systems quickly.

 

Desired Skills and Competencies:
• Exposure to lease accounting concepts (US GAAP ASC 842) and end-to-end lease operations.
• PeopleSoft, SAP ECC, and/or SAP S/4HANA experience.
• Data analytics tools and strong Excel/PowerPoint proficiency.
• Attention to detail, accuracy, organization, and process rigor.
• Audit/testing experience; Big 4 exposure is a plus but not required.
• Ability to synthesize data into clear insights and link to business implications.

Work Environment and Location:
This role thrives in a dynamic, fast-paced environment and requires close collaboration across global teams. The  position is based in Monterrey, MX.
Works across Finance, WPS, Lease Center of Excellence, Staffs Controllership, and ACR to ensure end-to-end lease integrity, accounting accuracy, and control  compliance.

 

Travel Requirements: Up to 15% domestic/international travel depending on audit and lease project need
