Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.

Role Purpose

Drives operational services across stream and process area through management of people and processes.

Key Responsibilities

Operations Management and Services:

  • Supports the development of strategies to create efficient operation services and mitigates risk
  • Fosters relationships with SMEs (internal and external) to support their operational needs
  • Assists with defining operational policies and procedures in accordance with the guidelines set forth by management and the objectives of each project; communicates policies to support staff
  • Determines operational needs and then identifies, communicates, and strategizes with business partners to solve problematic areas
  • Oversees operating processes to ensure compliance with established policies and procedures, escalates any potential issues
  • Supervises, develops, mentors, and guides support teams; focusing on accountability for all elements of operating systems

Systems and Data Services:

  • Reviews complex systems maintenance and implementation tasks for all software and hardware solutions across business units, ensuring implementations were approved, processes were followed, and testing was performed
  • Identifies opportunities for process optimization for assigned and related business areas; coordinates with leadership to implement improvements
  • Designs processes, testing, and training (system implementation) for plants; ensures system users are comfortable and systems are operating efficiently
  • Collaborates cross-functionally with business units to streamline their operations and optimize solutions
  • Coordinates the operational activities of the Support and MDM team
  • Supervises, develops, mentors, and guides support teams; focusing on accountability for all elements of operating systems

Experiences/Education - Required

Operations Management and Services:

  • Experience reviewing and analyzing own work for quality, ensuring thoroughness; performs the execution of daily activities within operational services
  • Experience implementing and suggesting process improvements
  • Successfully resolved complex issues in a timely and efficient manner
  • Experience assessing effectiveness and implementing controls to ensure compliance
  • Experience building relationships with business and functional partners
  • Demonstrates an understanding of operational services within a diverse, global company

Systems and Data Services:

  • Demonstrated ability to lead a large systems support team, mitigating potential risks
  • Ability to ensure assigned area is in compliance with policies, standards, and operating procedures
  • Successfully led implementation of applications improvements
  • Experience leading cross-functional testing initiatives with other applications teams and/or vendors
  • Experience independently directing system performance tuning initiatives

Experiences/Education - Desired

  • Experience working and supporting cross-stream projects
  • Demonstrated success working with partners across other business units and divisions
  • Experience assisting in the delivery of presentations for training events and or business discussions
  • Experience motivating and providing regular feedback to team members

Operations Management and Services:

  • Demonstrated ability to provide strategic guidance and support to junior colleagues
