Scope of Position: Responsible for Measurement and Controls (M&C) production support and engineering projects to improve the electrical control features of manufacturing processes at the CLS Oneonta Plant.


Day to Day Responsibilities:

  • Primary Measurement and Controls resource for troubleshooting, designing, improving, installing of production equipment and automation systems. Control system troubleshooting will include Programmable Control Systems, Human Machine Interfaces, Robots, Motion Control, Measurement Systems, Instrumentation, Dryers, and Material Handling Systems. Support PLC control systems, robotics, and vision systems.
  • Utilize data analysis skills, including statistical analysis, multivariate statistical analysis, frequency analysis, etc., to provide fundamental understanding leading to control system improvements.
  • Support new product introductions, process enhancements, raw material changes, and equipment design modifications.
  • Ensure all engineering related activities are conducted in accordance with established design and process control procedures.
  • Provide training for engineers and technicians as needed for new processes, equipment, or control systems.
  • Utilize Lean manufacturing principles to reduce manufacturing costs.
  • Apply DMAIC principles to achieve project objectives.
  • Maintain functionality of controls through coordination with maintenance and operations
  • Develop and maintain documentation on control systems throughout the plant
  • Responsible for designing, developing, integrating, troubleshooting debugging, process systems, robotic, PLC, and vision system programs
  • Provide weekend and evening support as necessary to support 24/7 operations
  • Ensuring that the equipment meets plant / industry standards and utilizes leading edge technology and process capability to gain competitive advantage.

Required Education:

Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, Electrical or Controls Engineering (preferred)


Required Years and Area of Experience:

5-7 years of experience with demonstrated success implementing robotic, electro-mechanical and machine/motion controls systems into process and manufacturing equipment.

Experience integrating PLC systems in to advanced manufacturing processes.


Required Skills:

  • Demonstrated experience in the application of various part sensing technologies, machine vision systems, PLC’s and motion control systems
  • Strong electro-mechanical skills with demonstrated experience in the successful implementation of automation, robotics, and control system integration technologies in manufacturing processes.
  • Able to effectively work with external machine builders and system integrators for detail design, build and integration of later stages of machine system implementation
  • Strong team player who takes personal ownership for their areas of responsibility
  • Capable of executing project assignments with minimal supervision
  • Effective problem solving and decision-making skills, with focus on safety


Desired Experience / Qualifications / Skills:

Knowledgeable of electrical design standards (NFPA, NEC, ANSI RIA R15.06)

Appreciation for the Performance Excellence (DMAIC, KT, etc.)

Allen Bradley PLC (Control Logix) systems as well as motion control systems

  • PLC programming; Mitsubishi controller (preferred) or AB controller Soft Skills:
  • Able to communicate equally well with various levels of the organization (engineers, production associates, and managers)
  • Able to work in a team-oriented environment
