Job Title: Plant Environmental, Health & Safety Manager

 

Scope of Position:

This position is responsible for promoting a safe and healthy work environment for all plant employees, visitors, and contractors. The Environmental, Health & Safety (EH&S) Manager will help drive continuous improvement in overall EH&S performance while promoting an interdependent organizational culture. The intent of this role is to lead and effectively integrate EH&S processes/programs into the overall plant strategy while maintaining compliance with all applicable federal, state local, and corporate safety laws and standards.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain close liaison with Corporate Safety Management Services and Corporate Environmental Control.
  • Develop policies, standards and procedures and work with management to ensure uniform compliance regarding safety, health and environmental issues
  • Maintain compliance with applicable laws, policies, codes and regulations, seeking advice from outside agencies, and corporate departments when necessary. Work to ensure that the facility remains current in all external reporting requirements to corporate, state, local and federal agencies
  • Serve as the facilitator of the site EHS Committee, and ensure that the EHS Committee members are authentically engaged in overall EHS management of the facility
  • Work with management on hazard identification, evaluation and control and appropriate risk assessment and risk mitigation
  • Coordinate reporting, tracking, and trend analysis of workplace incidents, injuries and illnesses as well as environmental incidents.
  • Maintain metrics of facilities EHS performance, and ensure that performance data is communicated to the facility employees and the corporate environmental, health and safety organizations
  • Work with management to implement with Corporate SMS and EMS annual initiatives and to set short (annual) and long term (3-5 year) goals for safety, health and environmental system improvements which include suitable reductions in injury and illness and environmental incidents. Facilitate and direct efforts to meet or exceed the goals
  • Direct and facilitate the development, implementation, maintenance and improvement of required safety, health and environmental programs and processes
  • Facilitate the development and maintenance of facility emergency response plans and ensure that all affected employees receive training as needed
  • Provide guidance and expertise for all safety, health and environmental training within the facility. Coordinate specialized training as needed in the facility
  • Facilitate and provide guidance and expertise in safety, health and environmental activities such as workplace inspections and evaluations and industrial hygiene surveys and assessments, utilizing outside consultants and contractors when necessary
  • Work with internal and external organizations to coordinate industrial hygiene, safety, health and environmental audits of the facility. Conduct self-assessments prior to scheduled audits, and take leadership in prioritizing and taking action on audit findings and recommendations
  • Provide assistance to those in the facility responsible for the management of workers’ compensation and the interaction with doctors and other medical care providers, insurance providers and other outside agencies
  • Provide guidance and expertise in conducting safety, health and environmental risk assessments for new or existing processes or equipment. Support the introduction of new products and processes into the facility
  • Facilitate and provide guidance and expertise for the development of a world class safety culture within the facility
  • Manage all aspects of the facility’s hazardous waste program.
  • Manage special projects as assigned

 

Required Education:

 Bachelor’s Degree in occupational health/safety, environmental engineering, safety or related subject

 

Required Work Experience:

Minimum 3 to 5 years of experience required in a manufacturing or similar industrial environment

 

Required Skills:

  • Knowledge of OSHA/EPA and other relevant regulations and standards.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills (DMAIC, DESGN).
  • Experience integrating aspects of EH&S management into the overall operation of the plant.
  • Handles time and resources effectively to meet deadlines.
  • Information Utilization and ability to use electronic databases.

Travel Requirements:

 Negligible

 

Hours of work/work schedule/flex-time:

Monday – Friday. Typically 7 AM – 4 PM. Flexibility required to accommodate interactions with manufacturing associates who work a 24 x 7 shift schedule
