The global Human Resource (HR) Function provides an integrated talent management system that delivers a workforce that is Corning's competitive differentiator in the global marketplace.

HR provides service offerings that align solutions to business challenges by ensuring the programs are Effective, Efficient, Global, Scaleable, and Repeatable.  Corning’s Values are operationalized by the HR Function through the facilitation of Talent Management offerings, as well as programs and processes that aid in making Corning’s Values visible.

Role Purpose

As the plant HR Manager, you cultivate and maintains a positive work environment and operate as “One Corning” in support of Corning’s Values while providing optimal level of HR service and delivery in support of business goals and objectives.  You will partner closely with plant, division, and corporate leadership on key initiatives while ensuring compliance to legal and regulatory guidelines.

Key Responsibilities

Labor Relations: Manage labor relations for unionized workforce (<200 employees), including grievance resolution, CBA negotiation, and compliance with labor laws and agreements.

Employee Relations: Foster a positive work environment, address employee concerns promptly, mediate conflicts, and maintain a presence on the plant floor to gauge morale.

Recruitment and Staffing: Oversee recruitment, onboarding, and staffing to ensure qualified personnel. Collaborate with hiring managers to define job requirements and align hiring practices with union agreements and company policies.

Training and Development: Promote compliance training, identify opportunities for talent development, and implement succession planning initiatives.

Performance Management: Guide performance evaluations, address performance issues, implement corrective actions, and recognize employee contributions.

Compliance and Reporting: Ensure compliance with employment laws, maintain accurate records, and prepare reports on labor relations, compliance, and workforce metrics.

HR Strategy and Leadership: Align HR activities with business objectives, analyze trends, recommend policy improvements, and partner with Division HR to implement employee value propositions. Deploy shared service models to meet transformation goals, standardize HR programs across divisions, and educate management on fostering a positive work environment.

Projects: Lead/participate in plant-level HR projects, contribute to division initiatives, and manage talent reviews, employee surveys, and action plans.

Experiences/Education - Required

  • BS Degree in Human Resources, Business, Organization Development or Labor Relations 
  • >3 years progressive experience in the HR function required
  • Manufacturing and union/labor relations experience preferred
  • Background in HR Management, conflict resolution, training and development, investigation skills
  • Able to operate independently and drive all aspects of the HR role for the plant
  • Advanced data analysis and computer skills
  • HR service orientation with a strong ability and passion for balancing the needs of the company, business, and our employees
  • Expert level communication skills
  • Able to develop and deploy HR initiatives

Experiences/Education - Desired

  • Greenbelt certification
  • First line supervisor experience
  • Successful track record in the deployment of global processes or program
  • Experience leading quality, training, safety, and security programs or projects
  • Work experience in designing and implementing effective organization structures and work processes that improve the plant ability to achieve desired results-product start up, expansion, or mature business optimization
  • Business and financial acumen
  • Strong knowledge of applicable laws and ability to quickly interpret, apply, and administer policies and procedures
  • Strong social and organizational savvy
  • Role model for integrity and champion the Corning values
  • Collaborator and relationship builder
  • Ability to understand context and properly represent, comprehend, and understand another’s point of view

The range for this position is $105,424.00 - $144,958.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education. The benefits available for this position are dependent on hours worked and may include medical, dental, vision, 401(k) plan, pension plan, life insurance coverage, disability benefits, and PTO.
