Scope of Position:

This position is for a Capital and Process Project Leader at the IDM plant in the Corning Environmental Technologies (CET) division reporting to the Die Technology Manager. The individual will be responsible for managing the capital project portfolio and supporting the development of the 5-year capital plan to ensure extrusion die manufacturing capacity to meet the requirements of CET’s business strategy. Responsibilities will also include technical project leadership for precision and process engineering improvements.

 

Day to Day Responsibilities:

The primary responsibility of this position is to manage the delivery of new equipment and related processes to manufacturing at IDM. The capital project leader will coordinate inputs from the technical team, equipment team (including external vendors), facility team, operations team and EHS team to develop and manage the project plans with associated ARs to deliver these solutions to manufacturing. Due to the nature of the die manufacturing processes, and the amount of new technology being deployed, a deep level of technical engagement will be necessary with the technical SME’s to ensure we successfully meet project objectives. The position will also lead precision and process engineering improvement projects.

 

Travel Requirements: Minimal. Some travel with overnight hotel stays could be required to support activities at vendor locations. Typical travel requirement is 10% or less.

 

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in an Engineering field (Chemical, Mechanical, Ceramic/Glass, Materials Science or Manufacturing Technology)
  • 7+ years of project and/or department leadership in a manufacturing environment.

 

Required Skills:

  • Manufacturing experience in a factory setting with a demonstrated focus on Safety as a priority.
  • Track record of successfully delivering new technology projects to manufacturing
  • Leadership-The ability to organize and lead small groups of cross functional teams to deliver capital & new technology project solutions (equipment & process) to IDM.
  • General problem-solving abilities along with the mechanical, electrical and materials aptitude to lead project teams to a successful outcome.
  • Attention to detail and rigor pertaining to equipment specifications, process control and documentation.
  • Familiarity with the CET capital process; from project initiation through closure including submitting and AR management.
  • MS Office proficiency (Outlook, Access, Excel, PowerPoint etc.).
  • Effective communication in both writing and presentation

  • Experience working with external vendors and equipment suppliers
  • Experiment Design (DOE) experience
  • Documentation (technical writing), machine specification, SOP guides, and machine qualifications
  • Basic understanding of Corning Environmental Technology Products and Processes outside of IDM
