Corning’s Environmental Technologies segment manufactures ceramic substrates and filter products for emissions control in mobile and stationary applications around the world.
Scope of Position
Join Corning's Environmental Technologies Division as a Computer Vision Engineer within the Measurements Innovation Group. In this role, you will contribute to the development, assembly, testing, and deployment of computer vision measurement systems. Your work will involve algorithm development, software programming, and image processing to enhance manufacturing process control and ensure precise inspection of CET products. You will collaborate with senior engineers and support the transition of technologies from development to manufacturing.
Day-to-Day Responsibilities
- Contribute to engineering projects focused on developing computer vision measurement systems incorporating machine learning and AI technologies.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design and implement algorithms for image processing and dimensional measurement analysis.
- Develop and refine software programs essential for system functionality and performance.
- Participate in the assembly and testing of measurement systems to ensure they meet quality and performance standards.
- Apply CNNs and other AI models to enhance image recognition and processing tasks.
- Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues during development and deployment.
- Coordinate with manufacturing teams to ensure smooth transfer of technology from development to production.
- Conduct performance assessments of deployed systems to identify and implement improvements.
- Document technical processes, system requirements, and project progress for internal stakeholders.
- Stay updated with the latest advancements in computer vision, machine learning, and AI technologies.
- Travel Requirements: 20-40% travel. 1 day to several week trips are typical.
Experiences/Education - Required
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in engineering, Computer Science, Math, Physics, or a related field.
- 1-3 years of experience in programming and computer vision system development.
- Proficiency in programming languages such as Python or C# (strongly preferred).
- Experience with machine learning and AI technologies, including CNNs.
- Ability to design, implement, and optimize algorithms for image processing.
- Hands-on experience in transferring technology from development to manufacturing environments.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication skills for documenting processes and presenting information.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
- Familiarity with version control systems like Git, TFS.
- Experience with software development methodologies.
- Basic understanding of data structures and algorithms.
Experiences/Education - Desired
- Experience with machine learning frameworks and libraries, such as TensorFlow or PyTorch.
- Familiarity with image processing frameworks and libraries, such as Halcon, OpenCV.
- Understanding of hardware components like cameras, lighting, and optics.
- Experience in a manufacturing or industrial setting is a plus.
- Experience in CT Scan technology is a plus.
- Knowledge of cloud-based or edge computing environments for real-time data processing.
- Experience with integrating AI-driven solutions into existing manufacturing processes.
- Background in project management or experience managing small projects.
- Knowledge of computer vision applications in industrial automation or quality control.
- Ability to work collaboratively with R&D teams to explore new technologies and drive continuous improvement.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, fostering a collaborative and productive work environment.

The range for this position is $68,615.00 - $94,346.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education. The benefits available for this position are dependent on hours worked and may include medical, dental, vision, 401(k) plan, pension plan, life insurance coverage, disability benefits, and PTO.
