Scope of Position (i.e. projects involved with and role within group):

As our intern, you will work in Corning Development performing groundbreaking work in Corning’s Glass Materials Modeling projects. You will have the opportunity to work on modeling capability development and improvement.

 

Day to Day Responsibilities:

  • Build understanding of products and what material attributes are required
  • Build and validate associated modeling framework development
  • Attend associated major project meetings, and provide modeling updates, results, etc.
  • Provide modeling guidance and participate in critical experiments and characterization activities
  • Provide modeling related presentations in broader R, D & E communities
  • Documentation of contributions in invention disclosures, and internal/external reports

 

Travel requirements (please note if international): None

 

Hours of work/work schedule/flex-time: M-F 8 am – 5 pm

 

Education and Experience (minimum required for consideration): Pursuing PhD in Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering or related discipline

 

Required Skills:

  • Strong fundamental and deep understanding in computational materials science (molecular dynamics, density functional theory, Monte Carlo)
  • Experience with numerical simulation software for materials (e.g., LAMMPS, VASP)
  • Experience in programming language (python, FORTRAN, C, C++ etc.)

 

Desired Skills:

  • Deep knowledge in mathematics
  • Knowledge in glass/ceramics processing

 

Soft Skills (Communication/Team/Leadership):

  • Strong communication of technical results verbally and through written documentation
  • Technically curious and ambition to learn new things
  • Engages easily with technical specialists
