Purpose of the Position:

The Die Design Engineer is required to learn the modeling concepts and techniques related to designing dies for use at extrusion plants as well as generating the print packages.  Candidate will be interacting closely with all levels of the die manufacturing organization, extrusion plants, and R&D organization.  The candidate will be required to communicate with all levels of the organization, vendors, fabricators, machinists, etc. to ensure design understanding and continuity through manufacturing and into extrusion.  The candidate will help facilitate integration with the New Products Introduction (NPI) process, including manufacturing reviews to hand off to Operations/Planning, Scheduling, and the extrusion plants.  An ideal the candidate will be a CAD expert (SolidWorks and/or ACAD) including but not limited to macro/automation programming, PDMWorks migration support, and continuity of models.



Day to Day Responsibilities:

• Designs as required to support extrusion plants and IDM directly on process and procedural improvements

• CAD packages and automation of same

• Standardization across different models and lines of processes

• Audit capability and reporting

Education & Experience:

• Mechanical Technical Engineering degree (BS or higher)

• CAD degree (AD or higher with 7+ yrs. experience) or equivalent


• Minimum 3+ Years of experience with similar background and scope, or transferable skills

• Machining experience a plus


Required Skills:

• Ability to demonstrate proficiency in SolidWorks® (Advanced knowledge a plus – or SW Certified)

• Working knowledge or mastery of GD&T practices

• Finite Element Analysis (FEA, ANSYS®, SolidWorks® Simulation, etc.)

• Strong mechanical aptitude and attention to detail and well organized

• Excellent verbal and written communication with engineers, machinists, and technicians

• Ability to take instruction from engineers and peers to develop detail designs based on project objectives and timing

• Visual Basic® and/or Solidworks® Programming ability very desirable

• AutoCAD® proficiency or equivalent transferable skills

• Fundamental knowledge of machining and other fabrication methods

• Ability to follow revision and database management protocols

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office® (Word®, Excel®, PowerPoint®)


Additional Skills:

• ANSYS® Software or equivalent

• JMP® Software or equivalent

• Lean Manufacturing principles

• Project Management skills (PPA, DA, etc.)

• Process Improvement skills

• Manufacturing or machine shop background
