Scope of Position: As the EHS Engineer you will be responsible for promoting a safe and healthy work environment for a manufacturing site located in the Corning, NY area. The EHS Engineer will lead and support EHS programs aimed at plant operations and project risk reduction, regulatory compliance, and continuous improvement in overall EHS performance.

 

Day-to-Day Responsibilities:

  • Focus on mitigating safety risks associated with non-routine activities, non-standard work, and plant projects, including construction work. This includes performing assessments independently, as well as working with internal and external groups to evaluate and address hazards.
  • Use of hazard identification and risk assessment processes and tools (Potential Problem Analyses, Job Safety Analyses, Process Hazard Analyses, etc.)
  • Ensures effective development and delivery of all EHS related training and education programs for employees, contractors, and visitors,
  • Ensure any new chemical requests are assessed for safety and environmental requirements understood prior to brining onsite.
  • Manage and maintain SDS system and confirms new materials and products have appropriate SDS sheets and training.
  • Ensure programs for contractors and construction projects are implemented consistent with Corning standards, regulatory requirements, and best management practices.
  • Leading and supporting EHS-related projects and workstreams as needed
  • Performing & coordinating routine EHS-related inspections and correcting deficiencies
  • Promoting employee engagement in safety
  • Ensuring site operations remain in compliance with hazardous materials/dangerous goods requirements
  • Lead workplace injury & incident investigation, root cause analysis, and completion of corrective actions
  • Representing EHS interests in department meetings, project design reviews, and other forums
  • Able to react to changing requirements and perform other tasks as assigned

Work schedule: 40 - 50 hours/week, may require work outside of normal business hours when necessary

 

Travel Requirements: <5%

 

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in EHS-related field (e.g. Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Engineering, Industrial Hygiene)
  • Previous EHS, environmental, or safety experience preferred
  • Experience in a manufacturing environment desired
  • Related EHS-related certifications are also a plus (GSP, CSP, CIH, EIT, PE)
