Position Purpose

Design, construction, and implementation of custom optical diagnostic systems for investigative work through the Imaging and Fluid Dynamics Laboratory (IFD) for process improvement and technology development. This role supports all Corning business divisions and all stages of product innovation.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in electrical, mechanical, physics, or equivalent discipline/experience with an emphasis on automation
  • Prior work in a laboratory and/or experimental settings (I.e. production line)
  • Proven success in designing, building, and integrating mechanical, electrical, and optical components for custom automated systems
  • Working knowledge of LabView software for automation
  • Ability to integrate sensor/detection devices into new/existing systems and output data from sensory devices via Data Acquisition modules
  • Ability to select controls and automation hardware
  • Must be available for significant travel, primarily domestic, to multiple locations to support business needs

Desired

  • Exposure or experience with optical equipment (e.g., cameras, lenses, and light sources)
  • Exposure or experience with C++, Matlab, or comparable language for data / image analysis
  • Working knowledge of assembling laboratory scale gas or liquid flow systems
  • Learns quickly and independently
  • Ability to build relationships across functional groups

Responsibilities

  • Deploy custom imaging/optical diagnostic systems integrated with secondary sensor systems, motion equipment, and various flow controls systems
  • Design and deploy custom triggering/synchronization solutions for custom designed optical systems, including integration with other laboratory or production systems
  • Maintain and customize operation of existing optical diagnostic capabilities
  • Execute specific optical measurements and associated data analysis
  • Conduct hands on work in a laboratory, engineering, or manufacturing environment and maintain laboratory, process equipment, and laboratory materials
  • Communicate project status and updates, including documentation
  • Record and perform preliminary analysis of process data

The range for this position is $68,503.00 - $94,192.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education. The benefits available for this position are dependent on hours worked and may include medical, dental, vision, 401(k) plan, pension plan, life insurance coverage, disability benefits, and PTO.
