Role Purpose

We are seeking a knowledgeable and detail-oriented Raw Materials Engineer with expertise in glass melting, high-temperature material processing, and 3D CT scan analysis to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for evaluating, selecting, and optimizing raw materials used in manufacturing processes while leveraging advanced imaging technologies for material characterization and quality control. This role requires a strong technical background in materials science and processing, along with the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams to support product development and manufacturing operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assess, select, and qualify raw materials for glass melting and high-temperature material processing applications.
  • Develop and optimize raw material formulations to meet product specifications, performance criteria, and manufacturing requirements.
  • Conduct research and analysis on the behavior of raw materials during glass melting and high-temperature processes, including thermal, chemical, and mechanical interactions.
  • Utilize advanced imaging techniques, including 3D CT scanning, to analyze and characterize raw materials and finished products for defects, homogeneity, and structural integrity.
  • Collaborate with suppliers to ensure consistent quality, availability, and cost-effectiveness of raw materials.
  • Monitor and troubleshoot raw material-related issues in manufacturing processes, providing technical solutions to minimize disruptions and improve productivity.
  • Work closely with R&D teams to support the development of new products and processes by evaluating and integrating innovative raw materials.
  • Conduct material testing and characterization using techniques such as XRF, XRD, SEM, DSC, and 3D CT scanning to ensure compliance with specifications.
  • Analyze the impact of raw material composition on product properties, energy consumption, and process efficiency.
  • Maintain documentation related to raw material specifications, testing results, and supplier qualifications, including data from imaging technologies.
  • Stay current with advancements in material science, imaging technologies, industry standards, and regulatory requirements to ensure best practices in raw material selection and usage. 
  • Work closely with corporate GSM to maintain supply assurance for raw materials through cost optimization, risk mitigation, product transparency and competitive advantages. 
  • Determine and evaluate effective methods for batch mixing, conveyance & homogeneity with a focus on impacts to melting/forming/finishing. 

Experiences/Education - Required

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Glass Technology, or a related field.
  • Proven experience in glass melting, high-temperature material processing, or raw material formulation.
  • Strong understanding of material properties, thermal dynamics, and chemical interactions in high-temperature environments.
  • Experience with advanced imaging technologies, including 3D CT scanning, for material characterization and defect analysis.
  • Familiarity with testing and characterization techniques such as XRF, XRD, SEM, and DSC.
  • Hands-on experience with manufacturing processes involving furnaces, kilns, or other high-temperature equipment.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills for effective collaboration with suppliers, R&D, and production teams.
  • Ability to adapt to a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities effectively.

 

Travel

  • Must be available for significant travel, primarily domestic, to multiple locations to support business need
