Role Purpose

The Engineer, Process improves manufacturing performance by reducing defects, eliminating root causes, and solving process problems through fundamental understanding and use of the scientific method. This role applies DMAIC, statistical tools, and process discipline to improve cost, quality, uptime, yields, cycle time, and safety. The position also evaluates new raw materials, equipment, and process parameters, documents process changes, and supports projects across Corning divisions and research and development.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and develop new processes or improve existing processes at Corning facilities worldwide
• Solve problems and improve processes based on fundamental understanding and structured problem solving methods such as KT, Designed Experimentation, or Six Sigma
• Implement Process Control and Process Discipline systems into manufacturing operations
• Analyze process data using statistical tools such as pareto, regression, time charting, analysis of variance, gauge R&R, and related techniques
• Measure and communicate performance against established objectives
• Review and interpret data to make recommendations on immediate actions, long term corrective actions, and follow up experiments
• Reduce defects by eliminating root causes and improve manufacturing cost, quality, uptime, yields, cycle time, and safety
• Work with suppliers to improve performance and evaluate new raw materials, new equipment, or new process parameters
• Document SOP, SOS, experiment planning, process changes, and other process documentation
• Train operators and peers on defined processes and support process implementation across manufacturing environments

Experiences/Education - Required

• Minimum of BS in chemical, materials, ceramic, mechanical engineering, or computer science
• 0 to 5 years’ experience in engineering/manufacturing
• Rigorous problem solving and proficiency in the use of process control and analysis techniques
• Experience completing projects in a manufacturing organization
• Decision making based on data
• Strong written and oral communication skills
• Personal initiative and commitment
• Organized with good planning and time management skills
• Ability to build relationships within cross functional groups and demonstrate team building skills
• Positive attitude, flexibility, and strong work ethic
• Ability to work full time and support significant travel, primarily domestic, with occasional international travel as required

Experiences/Education - Desired

• Effective presentation skills
• Capable of leading small process development or improvement projects
• Innovation experience
• Process excellence or Six Sigma Green Belt or higher

The range for this position is $70,776.00 - $97,317.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education.
