The Specialty Materials segment manufactures products that provide more than 150 material formulations for glass, glass ceramics and fluoride crystals to meet demand for unique customer needs. Consequently, this segment operates in a wide variety of commercial and industrial markets that include display optics and components, semiconductor optics components, aerospace and defense, astronomy, ophthalmic products, telecommunications components and cover glass that is optimized for portable display devices.
The Role:
We are seeking a Software Applications Engineer to design, implement, support, and maintain our Computerized Asset Management and Maintenance Management platform’s strategic implementation across Corning’s global manufacturing environment. This role requires technical expertise in system interoperability, business priority alignment, as well as project timeline commitments and change management skills to drive adoption and ensure successful deployment of digital manufacturing maintenance solutions.
You will work with technologies such as the Maximo Application Suite, AVEVA PI historian, the IFM Moneo IIoT platform, SQL Developer, Power BI, Microsoft Forms, GitLab, and Databricks to deliver robust, secure, and scalable solutions for key operational technologies related to manufacturing, maintenance, and other key Corning organizations.
What You’ll Do
Technical Integration:
- Coordinate the implementation of system integrations between OT platforms and IT systems using OPC UA, REST APIs, SQL, and custom connectors.
- Configure and manage Kepware OPC servers for data acquisition from Moneo and other field devices.
- Connect process and other data to Maximo Application Suite (MAS) components for maintenance data synchronization and work order automation.
- Implement AVEVA PI historian data flows for time-series data collection and analytics.
- Enable reporting and visualization through and Power BI, including dashboards for MTTR, MTBF, PM Compliance and Percent Planned maintenance analytics.
- Collaborate with data engineering teams to integrate OT data into Databricks for advanced analytics and machine learning use cases.
Project Work & Change Management:
- Coordinate with cross-functional teams (IT, OT, manufacturing, quality, and data engineering) to align on objectives and deliverables.
- A strong focus on improving asset reliability, safety, quality, process efficiency and regulatory compliance through the application of diverse business processes within the Maximo platform.
- Participate in technical discussions with business stakeholders and provide best practice solutions for Maximo Asset Management.
- Provide guidance, training and documentation to high-functioning Maximo CMMS users on a variety of subjects, including work order workflow management, standardizing maintenance business processes, asset cost depreciation and accounting, resource alignment, planning and scheduling and failure code configuration and analysis.
- Maintain frequent customer contacts within and outside own organization, typically with Maintenance Management and Reliability Engineering professionals as well as Data Analysts, with excellent communication skills consistently applied.
- Apply appropriate sensitivity regarding obtaining or providing information on matters of moderate importance to the organization which may be of a proprietary nature.
- Work with technical lead and subject matter experts to ensure project timelines.
- Assist colleagues on the Maximo technical team towards development solutions.
- Compliance with Maximo development processes through traceability in GitLab.
- Responsible for participating in design efforts for concurrent Maximo configurations across multiple Corning businesses.
- Debugs and characterizes defects, providing detailed configuration and descriptions for passing and failing tests for test reports.
- Maintains documentation of test operations and reports results. Identifies actual or potential problems in test plans or company products.
- Seeks supervisory direction for issues crossing into other functional areas or with broad impacts.
- Function with limited supervision. No instructions needed on routine work, general instructions and/or independent leeway given on new lines of work or special assignments.
- Coordinate other activities. Schedules own work to meet completion dates.
- Recommends changes in methods or procedures.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelors degree in Engineering or Computer Science discipline required
- Will consider an Associate’s degree in an Engineering or Computer Science discipline with experience
- 2+ years of experience (academic or professional) in computerized maintenance management systems
- Strong hands-on professional experience with IBM Maximo Application Suite v9.x and above
- Proficiency in SQL Developer.
- Proficiency in MS Form development.
- Experience with reporting tools (Databricks, Power BI) and data visualization best practices.
- Knowledge of the REST API industrial communication protocol.
- Strong understanding of data governance.
Preferred Skills
- Shows ability to lead projects, manage stakeholders, and drive change in complex maintenance workflow and operational environments.
- Software development experience in Python, Jscript, etc. for custom automation scripts within the MAS platform.
- Familiarity with Industry 4.0 standards.
- Exposure to machine learning workflows using manufacturing data
- Experience with the ServiceNow ticketing platform to resolve customer issues and answer questions related to the Maximo and Moneo platforms.
- Familiarity with cloud analytics platforms (Databricks, AWS) and data lake architectures.
- IFM Moneo IIoT platform configuration, deployment and integration with Maximo.
- Process Data Historians (AVEVA PI)
- Experience configuring and troubleshooting TCP/IP networking in segmented manufacturing environments. Ability to diagnose connectivity issues, optimize network performance, and ensure secure communications between OT and IT systems for Moneo data integration with Maximo.
- Experience with on-site deployment and support of Maximo and Moneo at manufacturing facilities.
Hours of Operations:
Monday-Friday 8am-5pm
- Flexibility to support cutovers, validations, or critical events related to core components of the Maximo architecture outside standard hours.
Travel:
- Must be available for significant travel, primarily domestic, to multiple locations to support business needs. International travel could be required as well.

The range for this position is $70,065.00 - $96,340.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education.
