Corning’s Display Technologies segment manufactures glass substrates for active matrix liquid crystal displays (“LCDs”) that are used primarily in LCD televisions, notebook computers and flat panel desktop monitors.
Role Purpose
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Thermal Process Engineer with expertise in glass melting, glass forming, ceramic firing, or high-temperature material processing to join our team. The ideal candidate will play a key role in designing, optimizing, and troubleshooting high temperature processes across various businesses, ensuring efficiency, quality, and sustainability in production. Projects will typically have a significant financial and strategic impact on the divisions serviced and require leadership that is consistent with Corning’s values.
Key Responsibilities
· Design, develop, and optimize new thermal processes or improvement to existing processes at Corning facilities worldwide
· Monitor and evaluate thermal systems and equipment performance to ensure operational efficiency, product quality, and compliance with industry standards.
· Analyze process, material behavior, and thermal mechanisms to improve process reliability and repeatability.
· Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including R&D, Division Engineering, production, and quality control, to implement process improvements and innovations.
· Troubleshoot thermal process-related issues and provide technical solutions to minimize downtime and improve operational efficiency.
· Develop and maintain process documentation, including standard operating procedures (SOPs), process flow diagrams, and performance metrics.
· Stay updated on advancements in thermal technologies, materials science, and industry best practices to drive innovation and continuous improvement.
· Ensure adherence to environmental, health, and safety regulations related to high-temperature processes.
· Other responsibilities include measuring and communicating performance against established objectives, reviewing and interpreting data to make recommendations on immediate actions, long term corrective actions, follow-up experiments, etc., and documenting processes and mentoring operators and peers on defined processes.
Experiences/Education - Required
· Technical Degree Required (glass/ceramics, materials science or related fields), BS minimum, MS preferred
· 5+ years of technical/engineering experience
· Proven experience in glass melting, glass forming, ceramic firing, or high-temperature material processing.
· Strong understanding of thermal dynamics, heat transfer, and material science principles.
· Hands-on experience with thermal equipment, such as furnaces, kilns, and heat exchangers.
· Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
· Strong communication and interpersonal skills for effective collaboration with cross-functional teams and stakeholders.

· Engineering project management experience
· Glass, raw materials, glass technology, process engineering basics
· Strong technical fundamentals with process research/engineering and materials
· Statistics, data analysis, design of experiments

This position does not support immigration sponsorship. The range for this position is $95,931.00 - $131,906.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education. The benefits available for this position are dependent on hours worked and may include medical, dental, vision, 401(k) plan, pension plan, life insurance coverage, disability benefits, and PTO.
