Scope of Position:

The primary focus is to provide equipment/process engineering and operations support to the Kiln Firing Department. Lead and support daily production needs through process control, process troubleshooting, experimentation, and environmental compliance. Lead and/or participate in continuous improvement projects and systems to reduce cost, increase selects, and integrate processes into production. Provide input on firing capability for new product investigations.

 

Day to Day Responsibilities: Investigate and identify causes for process and equipment issues and implement appropriate and effective corrective action. Provide first level support for troubleshooting kilns and associated material handling systems. Maintain process performance and product quality through ensuring adherence to procedures and improvement of procedures. Establish and publish periodic process performance measures to reflect overall kiln performance. Provide education/training to production workers as needed in implementation of process changes as a function of ongoing efforts and project work. Provide written and verbal communication across all levels of the organization on both ongoing and project work. Propose, perform and analyze experiments in Firing to improve production performance, product quality, and kiln performance. Support Quality Systems using experiments, Change control procedures, Standard Operating Procedures, Job Aids, and other documentation and training tools. Provide technical advice (within own area of knowledge and experience) and problem solutions to others. Support off-hour / weekend operational and project requirements as needed. Projects involved with: Support and implement continuous improvement projects Capacity improvement projects Equipment modification and/or new installation Specific projects and tasks to be identified through MBO process

 

Travel Requirements: Minimal <5%

 

Hours of work/work schedule/flex-time: Generally Monday – Friday; 7-5 with weekend and off hours support required

 

Required Education and Experience:

  • BS in Chemical, Ceramics, Materials or Mechanical Engineering
  • 2+ years of relatable experience

  • Computer: PI Process book, Pi Vision, JMP, MS Access
  • Firing and combustion experience; knowledge and experience in ceramic thermal processing
  • Environmental regulatory experience
