Corning’s Environmental Technologies segment manufactures ceramic substrates and filter products for emissions control in mobile and stationary applications around the world.
Scope of Position:
The primary focus of this role is to improve controls systems and provide support for production assets. Responsibilities include designing, building, programming, testing, and debugging automated process machines and material handling systems within the facility.
Role in the Team:
You will be a member of a cross-functional controls engineering team tasked with supporting and enhancing functionality for advanced manufacturing process systems. This role emphasizes safety and quality improvements.
Day-to-Day Responsibilities:
- Act as the Electrical Controls expert for development and troubleshooting of production equipment in the Finishing areas of the Diesel Manufacturing facility in Painted Post, NY.
- Collaborate with engineering, operations, and maintenance teams to implement new functionality based on production needs. Support includes, but is not limited to:
- Safety controllers, PLCs/PACs, HMIs, robots, motion control systems, CNC equipment, measurement systems, instrumentation, material handling systems, industrial networks, and MES/data collection systems.
- Adhere to plant and division electrical controls standards, addressing technical questions and managing changes during off-shift activities as needed.
- Execute assignments in a team-based environment with minimal supervision. Effectively communicate benefits and risks of engineered solutions to Operations and Leadership.
Work Hours/Schedule:
- Typical working hours are Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM–5:00 PM.
- Flexibility may be required to meet plant production objectives.
- Occasional off-shift support may be needed for emergencies to maintain critical asset operations.
Required Qualifications:
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or equivalent field.
Experience:
- 3–10 years of engineering experience preferred with a proven track record supporting, designing, developing, and implementing- robust, state-of-the-art controls solutions using machine/motion control systems, flexible automation, robotics systems, and electro-mechanical systems in manufacturing environments.
Key Skills:
- Strong technical curiosity to develop innovative solutions to complex challenges.
- Proficiency in electrical design practices, machine/motion control systems, robotics, programming, and system integration.
- Knowledge of control systems design, programming, and system integration, including open-loop and closed-loop systems.
- Familiarity with cutting-edge technologies such as:
- Control system integration and architectures
- PLCs/PACs
- Motion control systems
- Electro-mechanical drive systems
- Robotics, part sensing, and vision systems
- Risk assessment and safety systems
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.
- Ability to work effectively in both team and independent settings.
- General mechanical knowledge and its application in troubleshooting and system design.
- Highly motivated, results-oriented, and customer-focused with a commitment to excellence.
Desired Qualifications:
- Experience with Rockwell Logix5000/Studio5000.
- Familiarity with Fanuc robots and Allen-Bradley PLC/PAC, motion control, VFD, and safety hardware.
- Knowledge of computer science hardware/software.
- Experience with CNC equipment and vision inspection systems (e.g., Cognex, Keyence).
- Prior experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Knowledge of industry standards such as NFPA70, NFPA79, NFPA70E, NFPA86, ISO13949, and ANSI1506.

The range for this position is $88,834.00 - $122,148.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education.
